General Manager

Location: Remote, Southern California Based w/Travel

Company Overview: Our organization is a preferred sales and marketing partner to one of the largest bakery distribution companies in the United States. Our mission is to support our exclusive partnership through the management of key ingredient suppliers and understanding the industry supply landscape. We are seeking an experienced and results-driven General Manager to lead our company. Position Overview: The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing overall sales, operations, finance, and technology, driving profitable growth for our company. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and operational management to ensure the company meets its objectives while fostering relationships with our distributor partner, supplier clients, and internal teams. This position works closely with all key management departments of our distributor partner, including supply chain, marketing, sales, quality assurance, and branch operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement business strategies to achieve company goals, including sales growth, client portfolio expansion, and operational efficiency
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a small team of sales, technical, financial, and administrative staff
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer focus within the organization and with our key distributor partner’s teams

Sales and Client Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and distributor partner to maximize market penetration and revenue for all parties
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favorable terms for both the company and its distributor partner
  • Analyze market trends and distributor needs to identify opportunities for new product lines or services

Operational Oversight:

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company policies
  • Ensure operational efficiency by streamlining processes and optimizing resource allocation
  • Utilize and expand technological capabilities to support sales and efficiency improvements

Marketing and Brand Development:

  • Develop strategies that enhance the company’s visibility and market position
  • Develop creative usage programs to maximize supplier clients’ product portfolio sales
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and other networking opportunities to build brand awareness
  • Develop and monitor budgets, financial forecasts, and performance metrics
  • Monitor performance, including revenue, expenses, and profitability
  • Prepare and present financial reports to stakeholders, identifying areas for improvement
  • Implement cost-control measures to maximize operational ROI

Regulatory and Compliance Management:

  • Ensure compliance with food industry standards, safety protocols, and legal requirements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and regulatory changes

Education & Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration; Marketing, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in sales/marketing/management within the food or consumer goods industry; Bakery/Ingredient and supply chain experience preferred
  • Proven track record in leadership roles with P&L and direct report responsibility
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft applications; Familiarity with supply chain management tools preferred
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions
  • Creative, strategic thinking and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams toward shared goals
  • Strong multitasking ability to balance supporting our distributor partner, multiple suppliers, and our internal team
  • Understanding of sales & marketing, operations, and market dynamics
  • Customer-focused with a passion for delivering value, building winning relationships
  • Compelling, powerful, and clear verbal/written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong business and financial acumen (leverages analytics and insights to create strategy)
  • Possess strategic and tactical negotiating skills with ability to influence
  • Bakery/Ingredient Industry relationships a plus
  • Understanding of bakery/dairy commodity markets a plus
  • This role is remote, but requires moderate to frequent travel to meet with distributor partner, supplier clients, attend industry networking events, and to qualify new manufacturing partners as needed
