Fall Intern: Office of the President

Overview: The office of the president at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) is seeking an intern for the coming semester.

Robert Doar, the president and Morgridge Scholar at AEI, is a former social-service administrator whose primary scholarly interest is poverty.

He is an active and respected participant in the ongoing national debate about social spending and welfare reform.

Mr.

Doar and his staff support the work of AEI’s scholars and promote our fundamental values of limited government, economic opportunity, and American global leadership.

The intern will work closely with the executive office staff to complete a broad range of important assignments that intersect with the work of AEI’s research teams and that of our communications and outreach departments.

Internship duties include researching topics in American politics, social policy, and poverty; summarizing and evaluating reports and scholarly publications; providing timely writing and editorial support; helping organize and staff events; and assisting with various administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate will have an exceptional academic background in history, political science, American studies, or a related field; excellent writing and copyediting skills; experience in public policy research or political communications; and an appreciation of AEI’s mission and history.

There will be two start dates for the fall program: September 13 and September 20, 2022.

The program will run for a minimum of 10 weeks, although most interns’ end dates fall around mid-December.

Please see the internship homepage for more updates about the program.

Intern Scholarship ProgramIn the fall of 2022, AEI will offer up to 12 intern candidates a $1,000 monthly living stipend as part of a need-based scholarship program.

Our hope is to allow students to reap the academic, professional, and personal benefits of interning at AEI with the added support of financial assistance.

Applicants may fill out a scholarship application at any time during the application, interview, or hiring process.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until August 22.
