The Director of Development for Student Success and Diversity Initiatives works in an intra-disciplinary and highly collaborative manner with academic, administrative, and development leaders across campus to manage and grow the identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of major individual, corporate, and foundation prospects in support of comprehensive student success and diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives.
As a campus-wide fundraiser under the direction of the Executive Director of Development, Major Gifts, the Director of Development is responsible for fostering volunteer board philanthropy and engagement, and in partnership with University Advancement leadership, develops a cohesive fundraising program that leverages campus partnerships and drives innovative strategies to achieve philanthropic goals.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Design and implement a comprehensive development plan to increase philanthropic support for funding priorities for student success and diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives based on approved funding priorities in consultation with the University Advancement and University leadership.
Focus on strategically engaging, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts of $100,000 or more and stewarding donors.
Identify and qualify new prospects, capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more.
Build, develop and manage a portfolio of 100-120 major and principal gift prospects, with a goal of having 30-40 prospects in the solicitation phase of the donor cycle at any given time.
Execute at least 200 meaningful engagements and present 20+ proposals per year, with an expectation of escalating philanthropic goals.
(50%) Recruit and manage volunteer alumni boards.
The Director drives successful board relations and board giving as well as supports the agenda and program of said boards.
Develop specific plans for volunteer recruitment and actively engage the boards with a focus on major gift prospect identification, solicitation, and stewardship.
(20%) In cooperation with the Executive Director of Development, Major Gifts and senior staff, establish annual fiscal year qualitative and quantitative goals, objectives, and key accountabilities in order to increase donors and dollars raised.
Determine most effective means to report progress and provide assessment on a regular basis.
Prepare and monitor the development budgets for assigned diversity initiatives.
(10%) Work in cooperation with the other members of the development staff, including Corporate and Foundation Relations, Principal Gifts, Major Gifts, Parent Philanthropy, Planned Giving, Prospect Research, Annual Giving, and Advancement Information Services to develop fundraising strategies, identify new prospects, and plan effective solicitations.
Meet regularly with senior development leadership to ensure coordinated and sustained forward momentum in fundraising across campus entities.
Determine market feasibility for fundraising priorities and work with volunteers and donors to assist with specific solicitations, as necessary.
When applicable, coordinate strategies for major gift solicitations with LMU leadership, staff, faculty and volunteers.
Actively involve department heads, faculty, students, and volunteers in the identification, cultivation and solicitation process.
(10%) Oversee the identification, cultivation and nomination of key individuals and corporations for representation on LMU boards and councils.
Recommend policies and procedures for the rotation, nomination and selection of new board members and honorees.
Represent LMU within the development community and at professional organizations or associations; serve on committees as required.
(10%) Perform other duties as assigned.

* Three to five years of experience in development or a related field, preferably in higher education.
A track record that demonstrates solid fundraising results and demonstrated success soliciting and closing major gifts.
This includes the ability to plan, organize and implement fundraising activities effectively, as well as participate in high-level individual, corporate, and/or foundation solicitations.
* Experience in promoting and coordinating effective volunteer philanthropy and engagement.
Experience should be in progressively responsible positions.
* Ability to speak persuasively to the importance of racial justice and the need for advancement efforts for diverse student life and success in a university setting.
* Demonstrated ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects and personally ask and close gifts.
Willingness to travel and work occasional weekend/evening hours.
Deal effectively and comfortably with high-level donor prospects.
A high energy, goal oriented worker who is well organized and personable.
Utilize a creative approach to fundraising projects.
Ability to effectively communicate the vision, values and mission of Loyola Marymount University, while capturing the interest of the prospect.
* Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.
* Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
* Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of Microsoft Office products as well as familiarity with the Advance system or an equivalent system.
* Demonstrated successful experience in establishing active boards comprised of prominent corporate and community volunteers, alumni and parents and in soliciting gifts from them.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Typically a Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
