Director, Institutional Giving

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Advancement, the Director, Institutional Giving is responsible for the development, execution, and expansion of Abode Communities’ Institutional Giving portfolio. In this role, the Director is responsible for utilizing creative, innovative, and ethical fundraising practices to sustain and grow philanthropic investment from private and corporate donors, business partners, and other institutions that align with Abode Communities mission, work, and desired impact. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of institutional giving from prospecting and building donor pipeline to cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, and stewardship;
  • Collaborate with key departments to understand organization-wide philanthropic need; research and identify charitable giving opportunities that align with needs; balance organizational prioritizes to deliver most impactful ROI;
  • Align current giving trends to solicit philanthropic funding from current foundation and corporate donors; design cultivation strategies to secure new charitable giving opportunities;
  • Prepare letters of intent, grant applications, and grant proposals to grow general operating, program, capital, and project-specific charitable investment; deliver responsive and timely grant reports;
  • Grow organization’s corporate giving program, including event sponsorship opportunities, annual fundraising events, and project-based events;
  • Administrate grant activities including tracking funding opportunities; developing annual activity reports; maintaining grants calendar; ensuring comprehensive donor and financial record-keeping; consistently document key conversations and pertinent donor information in donor database; monitor grant deliverables; maintain accurate and timely grant reporting schedule;
  • Consistently document key conversations and other pertinent donor information in donor management database.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify, secure, and streamline in-kind donations;
  • Serve as highly accessible ambassador among Advancement, Resident Services, Marketing, and Finance staff members
  • Other Duties and Special Projects as assigned.

The Director, Institutional Giving is a leadership role that serves as a key liaison for organizational staff and external stakeholders. Sound judgement, quick-thinking, and the ability to remain flexible and postured in a fast-paced environment are key. The Director is considered a superior and persuasive communicator, one who is decisive, self-reliant, and results-oriented.

The Director shall possess a/an:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, sales management, or related discipline and experience;
  • Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible work experience in fund development;
  • A successful track record of developing and growing foundation, corporate, and government investment to support organization-wide capital, program, and operating needs;
  • Experience in nonprofit social enterprise, real estate, human services, and/or other related discipline;
  • Demonstrated understanding of philanthropic market, including strong relationships with donors, funders, and community lenders and leaders;
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication, media relations, and marketing plans;
  • Ability to influence and gain the credibility/respect of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to operate as an effective strategic and innovative thinker with a track record for translating ideas into deliverable action plans with related outcomes;
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal skills, and ability to express themselves fluently and communicate complex subjects clearly.

Compensation and Benefits 

The target salary range for this role is $110,000 – $130,000; offers are commensurate with the education and experience of the candidate. Additionally, a full benefits package is offered including health, dental and vision insurance, long term disability insurance, 401K plan, paid vacation, and sick leave benefits. Abode Communities’ corporate staff enjoy a hybrid work schedule with two pre-determined days in office, and a 9/80 schedule allowing for every other Friday off. Additional in-office days and site visits may be required.
