MasterClass is transforming online education by enabling anyone in the world to learn from the very best.  We are deconstructing what makes an actor able to cry on demand, how an athlete defies gravity, and what it takes to write a bestseller.  Our online learning content is available to students anywhere anytime, which supports our mission to ignite the greatness in others.

We are a quickly growing VC-funded startup based in San Francisco, with additional offices in Los Angeles.  We have created online classes taught by famous masters— Gordon Ramsay, Serena Williams, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sara Blakely, David Sedaris, Bobbi Brown, Timbaland, Anna Wintour and many more to come.

What we are looking for:

  • A creative team leader with strong instincts and a collaborative mindset
  • Extensive narrative storytelling experience, preferably long-form documentary, documentary series, or feature films
  • Proven experience developing long-form projects including strong research, writing, and creative visualization skills, and communicating this creative vision to a team
  • A breadth of experience driving long-form non-fiction content through post, including communicating clear actionable notes
  • A track record of astute oversight and management of creative, with an emphasis on providing keen mentorship to more junior creatives
  • Experience successfully interacting with high-caliber on-camera talent
  • Outstanding communication skills – written, presentation, and storytelling
  • Excellent collaboration skills with creatives, production partners, and other business leaders
  • Cross-functional team leadership skills
  • Literacy in the latest media trends and an aesthetically rigorous curation sensibility
  • A keen intellectual curiosity and high standards
  • Experience in helping build a brand / solid brand awareness
  • Ability to keep pace with a quickly evolving tech start-up environment
  • Proven deep and rigorous background research and ability to analyze insights/consumer research Experience in film or video development, production and post/editorial end-to-end.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Premiere a plus.

    Strong aesthetic sensibility demonstrated via visual art, graphic design, styling, curation etc.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Help leadership shape the creative vision for the Content Team, evolving formats and strategies for student retention
  • Oversee content creation of 4 + classes in both production and post  
  • Directly manage and guide multiple Creative Producers and Associate Producers
  • Work with the creative leads to set continually high standards for the entire team
  • May act as Director on set for select classes; instructor-facing and on location when needed
  • Ensure all deliverables are meeting expectations, including alignment with brand, quality of work product, and timelines
  • Communicate project status to creative leadership, flag and troubleshooting potential issues
  • Represent and advocate for the Creative team cross-functionally
  • Lead a small interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment
  • Support hiring process for new team members

Requirements:

  • 12+ years of producing experience, overseeing multiple creatives on simultaneous projects
  • Hands on Research / Development experience in Non-Fiction Content 
  • Bachelor’s degree (we love lifelong learners, so advanced degrees are a plus!)
  • Consistent track record of taking ownership and action amidst multiple, competing priorities
  • Comprehensive understanding of production and post-production processes
  • Hands on experience working with editors.  (Familiarity with Adobe Premiere a plus)
  • Educational experience is a plus
  • Work full-time in our San Francisco or Los Angeles office with periodic travel 
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
