Job Description

Mission Community Hospital, a 145-bed acute care facility located in the San Fernando Valley, is currently searching for a full-time, Day Clinical Director of Behavioral Services in the BHU Unit. 

Position Summary

 Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), the Director of Nursing is responsible for the twenty-four hour, seven-day/week strategic administrative oversight and operational control to nursing units under his/her area of responsibility. Demonstrates competence in the performance of duties and leadership responsibilities related to the use and implementation of the nursing process assuring excellence in patient care; collaborating with medical staff and medical staff leadership; compassionate and consistent management of human resources; application of tasks, skills and procedures related to budget development, monitoring and variance analysis and corrective actions; provision of a safe environment in which care and/or service is rendered; and directing/participation in performance improvement processes including PI tools and corrective action plan(s) development and implementation.   

This position requires providing managerial/administrative supervision to departments which provide care/service to a critically ill through rehabilitating adolescent to geriatric patient population in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional and/or developmental age of the individual served. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Mission Community Hospital. It is expected that the director will demonstrate behavior consistent with the MCH’s values and shall support its strategic plan, goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan.

 FAMILIAR WITH C CLINICAL PRACTICE/SUPERVISION – Demonstrates expertise in management of and participation in clinical practice: 

1. Implements and monitors operational objectives consistent with MCH and nursing direction. 

2. Directs and supervises the use of the nursing process in the delivery, documentation and management of patient care. 

3. Monitors patient care delivery and documentation for assigned patient care areas, including evenings/nights/weekends, and, using participative principles, formulates/implements/evaluates corrective actions. 

4. Observes/manages the staff’s performance of their tasks/roles/responsibilities within scope of practice regulations. 

5. Communicates and directs compassionate care delivery and staff/patient communication that supports and respects the patient’s worth and dignity. 

6. Makes patient rounds on assigned units daily including but not limited to new admissions, patients with high acuity or intensive/unusual service needs or expressed concerns. 

7. Acts as a patient advocate in the coordination/delivery of high quality patient care. 

8. Ensuring adherence to nursing standards of care, DHS/DMH regulations (Title 22, Scope of Practice), Federal regulations (CMS, OSHA, HIPPA) and accreditation standards. 

9. Promotes inter/intra departmental collaboration and communication in the management of clinical practice and the delivery of patient care. 

10. Evaluates nursing practice/care trends and updates care model/standards/policies/procedures. 

11. Utilizes organizational and group dynamics to facilitate the change process. 

12. Utilizes opportunities to function as both a designer and initiation of controlled change in the work environment. 

13. Approaches unit/inter/intra departmental problems/issues in a positive fashion with resolution as agreed upon with the Chief Nursing Officer. 

14. Assures that all patient care staff relate effectively with the medical staff. 

15. Maintains effective working relationships with medical staff leadership. 

16. Assures that nurses, other patient care staff and physicians perform collaboratively as our core “patient care team.” 

17. Participates in medical staff meetings relevant to assigned department/units and others as requested by contributing a relevant nursing report for the assigned department/units. 

18. Provides follow-up reports to Medical Staff and administration on recommendations/requests. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

1. Registered Professional Nurse licensed in the State of California. 

2. B.S.N. preferred, or equivalent, M.S.N. preferred. 

3. Current CPR/BLS 

4. MABPRO Certified by completion of orientation 

5. Fire Card obtained within 60 days of employment
