Job Description: What will you work on?
The Design Manger will lead a dedicated team to design and develop a toy line for a new preschool property from Disney.
This senior level design position is 50% new brand concept 50% direction and management of staff.
The Design Manager is often the senior most hands-on designer on the team.
The Design manager is responsible for motivating and mentoring the team to consistently produce innovative, on-target, on time results.
The Design manager helps to prioritize projects and manage work load as well as provide design direction as needed.
The person in this role has excellent communication skills, a proven track record of success and is recognized as a good role model for peers and subordinates and a brand ambassador for the company.
This role requires regular interfacing with the licensor to ensure projects are on-schedule and on-brand.
How will you create impact?
* Works independently, requires little or no supervision.* Clearly demonstrates a solid understanding of the brand and the competitive environment as it relates to preschool toys, specifically vehicles and boy-appealing entertainment* Regular communication with the licensor* Deliver excellence to the licensor and help to build and maintain a strong relationship between licensor and the company* Participate in business and product strategy development, including creating innovative slots and rationale* Relentlessly drive innovation in each product* Has excellent problem solving skills.* Consistently maintains a positive attitude and motivates the team* Partners with Sr.
Creative Management and Brand Management to set direction* Delivers innovative results that support brand strategy* Works with Engineering team to ensure integrity of design in final deliverables, on time/on cost* Works with project management to set priorities, schedules and assign projects* Manage the timelines of the projects* Evaluate and measure actual forecast performance against objectives/plan* Maintain a consistently high level of quality, thoroughness and attention to detail* Travel overseas unaccompanied to Asia &/or Toronto as needed for projects & trade shows How will you fit into the team?
* Experience with top licensed brands, submissions, and communication with licensor* Flexible and upbeat with shifting priorities, and unexpected changes * Strong interpersonal skills* Good time management skills* Ability to adhere to project budgets and deadlines* Proven ability to work in a high volume, innovative, and entrepreneurial environment* Heightened creative and technical abilities including conceptual drawing, Microsoft Office and CS What are your skills and experience?
* 10+ years in Toy Industry* Undergraduate degree in Toy Design, Industrial design or equivalent; or related experience and/or training* Plastics, electronics, and/or mechanical experience necessary* Portfolio of professional work* Experience with preschool design a plus* Licensing experience a must, experience working as a licensee with Disney a strong plus What’s it like to work here?
