About this Role :

The Associate Vice President for Advancement will be responsible for building the Advancement function and team at TCSPP.

This position will lead all university-wide strategy and operations for advancement, development, and alumni relations.

Successful candidates will be energized at the thought of building up a nascent enterprise at a growing university, motivating cross-campus collaboration in pursuit of shared advancement goals, creating scalable operations and infrastructure, and pursuing and achieving exceptional results.

We are looking for a rising leader with significant subject matter expertise, outstanding execution skills, and strong management and leadership skills.

This position reports to the President and will be based in Los Angeles, CA.

This role will include occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities: 

Manage Vision and Strategy: Set the direction for TCSPP advancement, corporate and foundation relations, proposal and grants management, and alumni relations.

Establish a road map for growth with clear action plans and key performance metrics, in consultation with the President.

Empower and engage TCSPP’s leadership team in promoting key goals around development.

Team and Talent Management : Build an effective team structure.

Manage 3-4 FTE staff to execute on key goals.

Manage, coach, and develop individual employees to effectively execute on strategic priorities.

Ensure work is completed on time and consistent with TCSPP’s strategic direction and quality standards.

Advancement & Donor Relations: Develop ongoing list of prospective donors.

Build and secure new donor relationships while maintaining strong relationships with current/ongoing donors, including TCSPP’s Philanthropy Advisory Board (PAB).

Successfully fundraise and close major gifts on behalf of TCSPP.

Corporate & Foundation Relations: Develop foundation cultivation and solicitation strategies for the President, Board of Trustees, Philanthropy Advisory Board, and other senior staff members (as appropriate).

Align strategies to the funding cycles of targeted foundations, institutions, and corporations and include in-person donor visits, calls, briefings, letters of support, and events.

Organize and partner with contacts in their support of TCSPP’s priorities.

Proposal & Grants Management: Manage the university’s approach to internal grants/project management process; coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs and the Chief Academic Officer to develop strong grants management systems and best practices that further TCSPP’s strategic priorities.

Supervise and guide the foundation relations associate’s portfolio. 

Basic Qualifications 
Minimum 7-10 years’ relevant full-time professional experience Extensive experience and expertise in advancement, development, corporate and foundation relations, and/or alumni relations Demonstrated success with prospect identification, relationship building and solicitation, and closing large gifts and/or strategic/financial partnerships  Experience building and managing a team as well as coaching staff and holding staff accountable to deadlines, deliverables, and outcomes
Ideal Qualifications 
Exceptional ability to successfully work in a team environment, as well as autonomously, and manage self and team to goals and deadlines Experience in the higher education industry, specifically in development or advancement Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment  Experience working in a matrixed environment to achieve results Demonstrated planning skills and operations experience in team-based, complex environments
