Associate Director, Optimal Care – Telecommute

This role will challenge your ability to work manage relationships with provider led care delivery organizations, setting strategy, managing complex projects where deadlines and scope shift frequently, and measuring outcomes. You’ll need flexibility, agility, strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to change while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders in a highly cross-matrixed environment.

We are seeking a driven and results oriented Consultant style Senior Project Manager to work in our Optum Care Delivery team in our Optimal Care arena.

If you are located in the following locations: Birmingham, AL, Minneapolis, MN, California, or Washington, you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify project/deployment durations, effort, sequence, and dependencies required to meet applicable implementation objectives
  • Contribute to the development of project scope statements, in consultation with the applicable stakeholders (e.g. project charter, Statement of Work, CDO deployment strategy and timeline)
  • Develop, document, and implement project communication plans
  • Ensure alignment and understanding of program/project scope and objectives with all applicable stakeholders
  • Develop, communicate and implement project risk/issue management plans and strategies (e.g., mitigation, avoidance, transfer, acceptance) 
  • Establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with applicable project stakeholders (e.g., project team members, team leads, internal customers, functional SMEs, business partners, leadership)
  • Lead cross functional teams and drive the team to successfully complete the objectives of the program
  • Ability to engage functional partners on both the Optum and CDO levels to effectively deliver on program goals
  • Provide guidance, expertise, and/or assistance to internal and/or external partners (e.g., claims; call center; benefits; clinical) to ensure programs and strategies are implemented and maintained effectively
  • Engage with local provider organizations to support, augment and accelerate efforts to improve operational coordination of patient care
  • Communicate with and help internal and/or external partners interpret requirements to ensure effective problem solution and strategy implementation
  • Ability to support local teams as needed to fill capacity gaps, identify root cause solutions and maintain alignment with national priorities.
  • Research and proactively seek to fill in knowledge gaps in key functional areas.
  • Provide/ensure training to applicable audiences, as needed (e.g., process training, tool uses, project management methodology, change management)
  • Ensure that controls are identified and operationalized to allow benefit tracking and reporting
  • Ensure project documentation is accurate and all projects are completed on time and within scope
  • Analyze project outcomes and make appropriate recommendations to improve outcomes/processes moving forward (e.g., repeatable processes, feedback loops, cross-project improvement opportunities)
  • Ensure performance is tracked accurately utilizing internal tools and processes (e.g., dashboards; scorecards; reports) 
  • Request and/or receive relevant performance data from internal partners and review for accuracy 
  • Manipulate provided data into applicable tools and reports in order to facilitate performance review and analysis 
  • Review consolidated operational performance reports in order to determine overall effectiveness, make necessary changes, and identify opportunities for new programs or program consolidation or expansion 
  • Incorporate operations program performance information into strategic and business planning
  • Ensure that new/revised business processes/procedures are documented, updated, and approved, as needed
  • Collect/synthesize best practices from across a network of provider organizations and share feedback across the broader Optimal Care team

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related business or healthcare field desired
  • Proven track record of implementing new processes or tools in matrixed environment
  • 2+ years health care operations experience
  • 3+ years of consulting level program or project management experience using data and information to make informed business decisions. 
  • 4+ years or more Heath Care industry experience 
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment with ambition, client focus and innovative ideas that will enhance and improve results in a new program and product culture.
  • Travel required around 25-50%
  • Locations desired: Birmingham, AL or Minnetonka, MN area, or California or Washington; telecommuting may be considered
