Associate Director, Engineering

Summary:

Manage capital projects at the GB site. Will direct a team of engineers, both internal and external, and collaborate with manufacturing, validation and quality units and contractors to meet project goals and timing. This will include design, estimation, specification development, vendor selection, construction, start up and commissioning to meet project goals. Responsible for financial, safety, permitting and environmental compliance aspects of the projects. Assures continuous improvement and compliance of engineering processes. Uses expertise gained through a wide exposure in previous assignments and by focusing on areas for planning, scheduling, organizing, performance management, financial management, administrative skills, QA and validation.

Primary responsibilities for role:

  • Oversee the design, procurement, construction and start up of facilities and equipment.
  • Manages the necessary resources and suitable technology to complete projects in accordance with the safety, environmental, regulatory and business goals and standards.
  • Evaluates costs, schedule impact, opportunities and risks when making decisions 
  • Prepare, maintain, and monitor budget and schedule.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, evaluation and development of employees.
  • Reports the project status/results against a set of key business parameters.
  • Meets customer expectations and continuously improves process technology or capital process through improved productivity and quality, in consultation with internal departments and external resources.
  • Collaborates with other functional areas to meet business goals.
  • Develops and implements policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department. 

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field of study, advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years comprehensive experience in a medium sized organization. Biotech or Chemical industry favorable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, programs, systems and procedures as well as the ability to apply. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization. 
  • Ability to demonstrate practical applications and flexibility in adapting programs and services to meet specific requirements. 
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to multitask. 
  • Excellent leadership skills to maintain employee engagement.
