The Position: Under the general direction of the Director of Information Technology Infrastructure Services, the incumbent leads the Desktop Services Group (DSG) and Manager of Baseline Services in developing, deploying and maintaining a faculty, staff, and student workstation computing program that includes endpoint services, software evaluation, testing and distribution; anti-virus protection, security software patching; new technology evaluation; hardware refresh and maintenance program; laptop configuration and security; and desktop forensics. Incumbent assists with the planning of instructional technology, monitors academic software licensing for student access labs and integrates new technologies into the academic environment. As an advisor to the director of IT Infrastructure Services, the incumbent investigates, evaluates, tests, integrates, and implements new and converging technologies such as biometrics, electronic storage devices/media, portable electronic devices (e.g., laptop accessories, ITS team cell phones, student hotspots), voice recognition, wireless, voice over IP(VOIP) communications, electronic mobile devices (e.g., iPad, tablets) and the like. The incumbent provides expertise with vendor contract negotiations, compliance, and relationship building. The incumbent is directly responsible for managing, supporting, and providing direction to the Manager of Baseline Services. The incumbent has a working relationship with ITS staff including all managers and directors, analyst programmers, operations specialists, and equipment/systems specialists for the purpose of discussing current work assignments and problem resolution. The incumbent has a working relationship with all administrative and academic offices; frequency is dependent on the nature of projects, current workload, and customer support needs. Incumbent has a working relationship with equipment and services vendors. Required Qualifications & Experience: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in computer science, information systems, educational technology, or related field, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study; and three years of progressively responsible computer user consultation with an emphasis in a multi-platform computing environment. Incumbent must have minimum of five years substantive responsible supervisory/management experience operating hardware and software comparable to the Cal State LA operating environment, and supervisory and demonstrated comprehensive hands-on experience with an enterprise computing environment with Apple, Microsoft, and Linux operating systems. Incumbent must possess: thorough knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages; equipment platforms (Mac and PC); reference database systems and sources; and training methods; thorough understanding of networks, data communication, multimedia systems, and security; proficiency in MS Office; knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application programs, equipment platforms, training methods, and understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems; technical knowledge of encryption; knowledge of evolving operating systems changes, third-party utilities, and engineering changes applicable to a campus environment; thorough working knowledge of backup and restoration software and technology; knowledge of current security measures, strategies, tactics and systems concerning hardware, operating systems, antivirus, spam control, and anti-spyware products; general knowledge of the state and federal laws and regulations affecting information and technology security; excellent oral and written communications skills; good organizational skills; and good analytical skills, including the ability to respond to problems, prioritize actions and quickly initiate corrective action. Desired Qualifications: Experience in an academic setting. Working knowledge of Encase Enterprise Edition forensic software. Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) and/or Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) certification. Apple Certified Desktop Technician (ACDT), Apple Certified System Administrator (ACSA), and/or Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC) certification. Encase Enterprise Edition forensic software certification. Knowledge of IT work classification standards, performance evaluation standards, preparing job descriptions, and personnel hiring practices.
