Job Description

The Assistant Director for Alumni Career Services, West Coast will coordinate career programs and services for alumni in the western states/region. This includes career guidance and counseling, connections to jobs, networking opportunities, corporate connection initiatives, and professional development programming. S/he will work in tandem with the Associate Director of Alumni Professional Development to fulfill the Office of Alumni Engagement’s career services strategy for alumni. S/he will also work closely with the Assistant Vice President for Regional Programs, LA to enhance opportunities for career development, alumni networking, engagement, and employer connections. S/he will provide 1:1 support to alumni, assist with sourcing and managing the #HireOrange job board, and help facilitate west coast professional development programming. S/he will assist alumni with networking and job opportunities in LA/west coast by building relationships with employers. S/he will engage with SUinLA academic programs when appropriate for career and professional development programming. 

Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred, preferably in higher education, counseling, human resources or similar. Experience with human resources and/or career development services including coaching/advising, workshops and presentations.

Proven ability to develop and enhance relationships across diverse populations.

Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal communications, collaboration and leadership. Keen understanding of technological applications for career services, alumni relations, data management and communications.

Job Specific Qualifications

Certifications or training in career development or personality assessments, such as MBTI , Strengths Finder, Strong, etc. Familiarity with job market trends and effective and useful career development strategies. Experience with LinkedIn. Knowledge of various technology resources relevant to career development, job searching, networking, social media, and data gathering and analysis.

Although the role will be based in Los Angeles, CA, travel will be expected, both locally, regionally (west coast), and back to campus in Syracuse, NY. Candidates will need to have a valid driver’s license and their own transportation, as well as the ability to be flexible for travel schedules. 

Responsibilities

Create, develop and implement a comprehensive career services program to include one-on-one advising, workshops, and events to support LA/west coast alumni with networking, job search strategy and connections to job opportunities. Offer guidance, programs, and services over the phone, virtually, recorded, etc. and provide expertise for navigating the west coast job market and/or career transitions in a variety of industries. Develop, further, and maintain relationships with LA/west coast companies and HR professionals to increase hiring opportunities for alumni.

Develop and facilitate professional development programming specific to the LA/west coast regions, including networking events, corporate connection opportunities, and alum-alum mentoring.

Create and implement systems to assist in sourcing, posting, and sharing job opportunities from the LA/west coast to the #HireOrange job board. This includes identifying employer partnerships, promoting the resource to the LA/west coast alumni networks and tracking outcomes based on west coast opportunities posted and shared to the job board.

Lead and engage in collaborative, cross-campus partnerships for career services and alumni events in LA/west coast, including school and college career services and alumni relations/development teams, other AEA departments, the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience, and other west coast regional operations.

Create and implement systems to support assessment, tracking and reporting to measure LA/west coast career program and career event participation and program effectiveness. Track all appointments to include purpose, outcomes, and follow-up needs. This includes daily and weekly CRM database updates for all constituent contacts, event participation, cultivation initiatives, etc.
