This position will actively manage and coordinate research and development efforts of various personal care products, cosmetics and HI&I products.
The laboratory manager will also oversee all documentation and documentation control efforts in support of other company departments.
The research efforts being managed are crucial to ensuring personal care products are safe and that new applications for raw materials are discovered.
Work is performed as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES Manage the laboratory staff, which includes Quality Control Technician, Formulation Chemist and Laboratory Intern.
Hire and train all staff members as needed Coordinate with and act as liaison between other chemists/technical staff on all research and development projects Maintain a current detailed log of status of projects, formulas in development, research that is being conducted, and other laboratory developments in progress Act as liaison between R&D staff and marketing to generate formulas for industry and trade publications, websites or marketing materials Review TDS, COA and PSS sheets to ensure that they are current and consistent.
Assist in the commercialization process Answer technical R&D questions from the sales and customer service staff members.
Train sales and customer service staff on existing products and in advance of new product launches Formulate various personal care, cosmetic, and HI&I products for possible manufacturing and publication in notable Personal Care Industry publications and web sites Perform stability testing on all formulations prior to publication and on new ingredient blends prior to scale-up Perform lab scale batches of proposed blends bound for manufacturing scale-up and submit all formulation and procedural information to Operations to create adequate Standard Operating Procedures Oversee all Quality Control testing and corresponding records generation on production batches Coordinate with marketing on publication of formulas providing proportions, procedures, technical names and specifications Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis on raw materials using laboratory experimentation Oversee the creation and updates of Standard Operating Procedures as needed Perform housekeeping to ensure laboratory is maintained in a safe condition QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science or similar scientific field 5 years of project management experience in a laboratory environment 5 years of formulations experience 3 years of supervisory experience Strong verbal and written communication skills Able to concentrate on details, work within deadlines, apply reasonable solutions and prioritize tasks effectively Maintain effective and professional relationships with executives, staff, customers, vendors and governmental agencies
