Position Summary Yard Goat drivers contribute to the success of FN Logistics by ensuring that our shipping and receiving equipment/trailers are readily available to help expedite our customer order fulfillment process.
The role of the Yard Goat drivers is to work directly with the Shipping and Receiving departments leadership team and move yard equipment from dock to dock as specified by the supervisor.
Essential Functions The yard goat driver may work in the Shipping or Receiving department depending on business needs.
Work shifts can include early starts, late finishes, and weekends.
During busy periods, overtime is required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Operate Yard Goat/trailers in an effective manner with an emphasis on safety.
Perform trailer movements from dock door to dock door in a timely manner and with accurate record keeping as specified by the leadership team.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the yard goat and trailer, chock rear wheels when dropping a trailer.
Communicate and report any damaged or faulty equipment, partner with the leadership team to coordinate the repair.
Keep equipment clean and orderly daily.
Report any accidents and traffic violations to the leadership team.
During down time assist the Shipping and Receiving departments with material handling.
Operate forklift and pallet jack as needed by both departments.
Other duties may be assigned by the leadership team.
Education & Experience Requirements High School Diploma/ GED.
Valid Class C drivers license Experience operating yard goats and maneuvering semi-trailers.
Prior training or leadership background is preferred but not required.
Self-directed, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements People in this role should have a commitment to getting tasks completed and a hands-on approach to work.
This role is well-suited for people with excellent communication skills, and a keen attention to detail.
The following knowledge and skills are required: Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
A well-developed ability to read, write, and speak in both English and Spanish.
Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
Must be able to receive and maintain appropriate certification for operating equipment.
Ability to maneuver semi-trailer into small spaces.
