SUMMARY

In a time of unprecedented expansion, our client is seeking an accomplished VP to build a foundation, vision and strategy for our Transportation & Customs Compliance department. Reporting to the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the role will help outline game-changing objectives and strategize process improvements as we scale for continued growth. The position also will oversee all aspects of the Inbound and Outbound Transportation Operations and Customs Compliance departments, manage our Transportation and Shipping teams, and work with our external partners, including ground, ocean and air providers. In addition, the role will be responsible for all transportation contract negotiations—including but not limited to Import/Export contracts, Domestic Rail contracts, Domestic LTL/FTL contracts, Small Parcel contracts and deliveries to our 60+ retail stores.

  • Overseeing all aspects of the transportation business to actively contribute to the development, execution and realization of our clients growth strategy
  • Overseeing product movement and carrier sourcing, as well as developing the strategy for both domestic and international deliveries
  • Recommending and implementing an optimal structural design to deliver sustained processes
  • Developing and implementing centralized supply chain strategies and controlling the efficient flow of goods, services and information from potential sources to affiliates
  • Developing a comprehensive global strategy focusing on emerging technologies to drive efficiencies and keep pace with new and existing regulations
  • Ensuring successful regional adoption and capability development across our markets to enable efficient and compliant movement of cross-border trade, focusing on order-fulfillment operations
  • Coordinating the effective use of carriers to meet inbound and outbound capacity, service and least-cost objectives
  • Leading all pricing negotiations and contract management efforts
  • Providing analysis and strategic direction in relation to all shipping data—including net pricing and all accessorial charges—to drive efficiency and cost reduction
  • Creating transportation capacity strategies and developing contingency plans to cost-effectively support varying levels of company sales and changes to supply/demand patterns
  • Establishing and utilizing Key Performance Indicators that drive competitive costs and services
  • Analyzing and assessing industry and market dynamics on a regular basis to evaluate transportation costs and service trends
  • Overseeing all aspects of customs compliance for entire product categories
  • Building relationships and trust with cross-functional partners
  • Coaching, leading and mentoring the Transportation team to ensure that performance standards are aligned with organizational standards; providing performance feedback and reviews as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Operations Management or related field—or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • 10–15 years of industry-related experience; 5 years in upper management required
  • Experience in multichannel distribution network and global supply chain
  • Expert knowledge of domestic and import transportation
  • Industry-standard ERP knowledge and experience with transportation management systems a plus
  • Strong interpersonal competencies, including people-management skills for coaching and supporting large teams
  • Business and intellectual competencies, including industry knowledge and understanding, negotiating, strategic and tactical planning, warehousing and transportation, problem analysis, written and oral communication, people development, visioning and creativity
