– North America USA Charlotte Local The Head of Transportation HSE will lead all transportation HSE activities for a fast-paced environment that includes union and non-union facilities.

Responsible for leading transportation HSE functions (Multiple terminal locations and Transportation Safety Professionals in North America) to serve the company’s strategic and tactical needs while mitigating related risks and liabilities.

Principal responsibilities include the development and delivery of strategic, leading edge safety programs within the company, including managing core metrics, driving the appropriate safety and regulatory compliance culture down through the organization and providing influential consultative assistance to functional leadership to improve safety compliance and business performance.

Key responsibilities
• Lead development of transportation HSE policies, programs, procedures, and basic governance including corporate auditing, to ensure compliance consistent with regulatory and/or safety management policies and procedures.

• Partner with operations management nationally to identify and reduce transportation safety exposures.

• Design, implement, and continuously improve corporate transportation safety/compliance consistent with industry standard practices.

• Develop, oversee, and direct programs in a multi-state environment which ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies (FMCSA, OSHA, DOT, CHP, etc.)
• Direct the planning, response and recovery operation for emergency/collision situations and coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate response plans.

Manage and direct safety/compliance consultants and external vendors supporting services across the company.

• Represent the organization with local, state, and federal agencies as well as with industry associations.

• Develop, deliver, and manage safety/compliance training and related programs that meet operational and business requirements.

• Manage safety/compliance-based capital projects through engineering controls, etc.

by partnering with executive and operations management, finance, engineering, etc.

• Knowledgeable / proficiency in the transportation, storage and acceptance of hazardous materials / cargoes (Ex: Shipping, Marking, Labeling, Placarding, Segregation, incident reporting and Storage etc.)
• Create and manage national Transportation Safety organization as a combination of direct and indirect resources.

• Develop and recommend departmental budget.

Authorize expenditures in accordance with budget.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Logistics Management, Business, or related discipline.

10 years related experience in corporate Transportation safety/compliance management and systems development with specific experience in multi-state and multi-mode transportation.

• Experience Leading large groups with multiple direct / indirect reports
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Experience in Transportation Operations Management preferred.

Working knowledge of US DOT, OSHA, and CHP related regulations.

• Relevant certifications are a plus.

• Travel – Frequent in US and Canadian locations: Estimate 25%-50% Total Time You must be authorized to work for any employer in the US.
