Overview: Cedar Fair is seeking a full-time Employment Relations Specialist at our Knott’s Berry Farm to maintain effective relations by providing day‑to‑day advice and direction to employees and supervision on employee relations issues, including work place accommodations.
This position also advises management regarding policy interpretation and approves disciplinary action.
This position represents management at appropriate steps in the grievance process by investigating issues and concerns in order to resolve them in an appropriate manner.
This position may appear on behalf of the Company and respond to EDD claims, DFEH/EEOC complaints, and assists in the preparation of legal cases and conducts associated investigations as required.
Additionally, this position assists in the development and execution of internal legal training classes for all levels of the organization.
How You’ll Make A Difference: Provides advice and council to all levels of management regarding the use of progressive discipline, various personnel actions and other pertinent employee relations issues.
Ensures all employee personnel actions are properly documented including investigations, discipline and terminations.
Conducts investigations and responds to employee complaints of harassment, discrimination or unfair treatment, providing corrective action and resolution as appropriate.
Determines appropriate levels of disciplinary action based on circumstances of the infraction, employee’s disciplinary history, documentation provided by management, Company policy and procedures, past practice, and legal guidelines.
Approves employee suspensions based on the circumstances of the incident, Company policy, procedures and practices.
Reviews and processes Job Performance Evaluations for data entry.
Reviews and processes employee termination Change of Status forms for data entry.
Investigates and responds to various employee complaints registered with government agencies; including, the EEOC, DFEH, DOL, and EDD under direction of th H.R.
Director.
Represents the Company at personnel‑related hearings, legal proceedings, depositions and investigations under direction of H.R.
Director.
Responds to management and employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures and practices.
Assists with administration, review and distribution of annual performance evaluations for exempt and non‑exempt employees.
Maintains a business liaison with unemployment claims vendor to ensure proper documentation is forwarded, proper response is made and appropriate Company representation in hearings.
Reviews former employees’ personnel files and determines if rehire eligibility should be revised to allow the applicant to reapply to work again for the Company.
Coordinates and conducts review of personnel files requested by employees, former employees and government agencies.
Promotes teamwork and maintains a good working relationship with other departments.
Prepares Weekly Activities Report and Cedar Fair Quarterly Report.
Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state and federal employment laws.
Creates, implements and reviews department policies, procedures and work methods as necessary, to achieve Company objectives.
Adheres to and enforces all Knott’s Berry Farm’s policies and procedures.
Develops, presents and monitors Company training programs as required; including, supervisor shorts, team leader training and Kronos training to ensure quality and adherence to Company principles and goals.
Reviews and approves Job Performance Evaluations at the final warning and termination level.
We’re Looking For: Relevant degree at the BS/BA level is preferred but not required.
Basic understanding of Knott’s policies, procedures, and employee rules of conduct.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with line level employees and all levels of management.
Must have extensive knowledge of employee relations practices, procedures and applicable State and Federal labor laws, and regulations.
Must be detail oriented and possess excellent planning, supervisory and organizational skills.
Must be computer literate, preferably in Windows, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Must have 5 plus years experience supervising employees.
Must have moderate knowledge of recruitment, screening, and interviewing processes.
