Coordinator, Driver Safety

Under the direction of the Director of Support Services, this position performs, coordinates, and monitors transportation safety-related functions for the AltaMed Transportation Division; investigates workplace accidents and occurrences; passenger safety issues and occurrences; makes recommendations regarding transportation safety policies and procedures; and conducts safety related training. This position is also responsible for participant safety and driver safety on fixed routes and/or specialty appointments. He/She will maintain a variety of records and files related to driver and vehicle safety and perform audits on vehicle and driver logs to ensure accuracy and compliance of documentation. Will also audit maintenance records, recommend measures to reduce accidents and hazards and assure that safety inspections are properly scheduled, performed, monitored, and documented.  Monitor performance of vendors, maintenance providers and drivers through vehicle inspections and audits, site visits direct observation and vehicle trailing.Perform audits to review driver records such as DMV and Drug and Alcohol testing compliance, vehicle manifests and any related items determined relevant and required by regulatory agencies.Perform site audits for ADA compliance issues related to accessibility, wheel chair ramp measurements and standards, egress, safe deployment of vehicle lift and/or passengers.Investigate vehicle accidents, insurance claims and safety issues and recommend corrective procedures; prepare all applicable information as required by law.Schedule and coordinate all driver safety training and customer service programs and evaluate driver safety and customer service performance.Maintain all safety records pertaining to the operation in preparation for audits, agencies, vendors, providers and contractors.Monitor and review onboard camera footage to identify good customer service and customer service needing corrective actions.Test and maintain all driver certification and recertification records.Work with Transportation Manager to oversee California Highway Patrol (CHP) annual inspections, Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) driver and vehicle permitting process.Ensure that drivers selected for Random Drug testing comply with testing requirements and maintain appropriate records for review by CHP/LA DOT, etc. Ensure that if “reasonable suspicion” is determined after any accidents that the employee is sent for Drug Testing.Work with Maintenance and Safety Technician on investigation of driver accidents and incidents.Oversee all grant reporting requirements for buses acquired via Cal Trans grant.Comply with all regulations published by OSHA and state occupational safety agencies, including but not limited to reviewing standards, implementing plans to meet those standards and following all record-keeping requirements; upholds safety regulations including DOT, Cal Trans, FTA and PACE policies.Oversee and tabulate results of impromptu/random driver surveys; provide retraining for drivers receiving deficiencies.Perform job duties and responsibilities of a Driver, if required.Perform other related duties as assigned.High School Diploma required; Associate of Arts Degree preferred.A Class B (with P endorsement for multiple passengers) driver’s license required; no ‘license points’ preferred.A minimum of four years’ driving experience required working with geriatric and/or frail elderly population.A minimum of two years’ experience working in development and presentation of training programs in transportation industry and in the safety field required.LA DOT city permit and CA VTTD (Verification of Transit Training Document) required.Current First Aid/CPR required.
