Surveyor

Job Overview:

Under supervision of Construction Manager, employees will perform a variety of rigorous physical tasks outdoors in all types of weather in support of cleanup of contaminated soils near Neihart, Montana.

Work may include: Constructing haul roads & installing bridges; expanding and capping on-site repository; excavating and hauling contaminated materials from stream channels and/or residential, commercial or private properties and backfilling/restoring properties to existing state.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment

  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys in order to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed.

  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.

  • Direct or conduct surveys in order to establish legal boundaries for properties, based on legal deeds and titles.

  • Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.

  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.

  • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.

  • Plan and conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements.

  • Search legal records, survey records, and land titles in order to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed.

  • Analyzing data using plans, maps, charts, and software such as AutoCAD and GIS programs.

  • Coordinate findings with the work of engineering personnel and others concerned with projects.

  • Adjust surveying instruments in order to maintain their accuracy.

  • Establish fixed points for use in making maps, using geodetic and engineering instruments.

  • Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas, using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems (GPS).

Basic Qualifications:

  • MUST LIVE WITHIN DAILY COMMUTE OF NEIHART, MT.

  • Must be a professional land surveyor licensed in the state of Montana

  • Minimum 5 years experience with previous construction and/or environmental project work preferred.

  • Requires physical strength, stamina, flexibility, and dexterity

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen

  • Preferred applicant will have current OSHA HAZWOPER training, not required, will train.

  • A resume is preferred but not required when applying.

  • Dependable transportation and cell phone service

Work Schedule:

  • Work to be performed between March and November, weather dependent

  • Current schedule:

  • Mon-Fri, 8-1/2 hrs/day

  • 15 min morning/afternoon breaks

  • 30 min meal break

  • Possible schedule change at client direction to work Mon-Sat, 8-1/2 hrs/day.
