Virtual Language Teacher — Remote | WFH

Join a dynamic team in the National Security Language Initiative for Youth, a program under the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Our mission is to empower young Americans with language skills essential for global dialogue, economic growth, and fostering mutual understanding across cultures. You’ll play a crucial role in expanding our reach and impact by providing virtual language instruction and cultural immersion experiences to high school students. We’re seeking passionate individuals to teach beginner-level Russian remotely over a 10-week program, starting Fall 2024 (September – December). All classes will be conducted virtually through Canvas and Zoom. As a Virtual Language Teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to enhance your online teaching skills while introducing students to the rich cultures of Russian-speaking countries. Position Responsibilities: Participate in mandatory Virtual Orientation Webinar and potential teaching/facilitation training. Design a comprehensive 10-week beginner-level language and culture program to help students achieve Novice-Low proficiency in Russian, fostering a lasting interest in foreign languages and cultures. Deliver engaging virtual lessons via Zoom, meeting 2-3 times per week, tailored for small groups of high school students. Create immersive learning experiences by incorporating diverse teaching methods, guest speakers, cultural activities, and projects. Conduct classes primarily in the target language, ensuring at least 80% language immersion. Collaborate with Virtual staff to refine curriculum materials and assessment tools. Provide constructive feedback to students and adapt teaching strategies based on their progress. Participate in monthly check-ins with Virtual staff and assist in post-program assessments. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher. Teaching experience in Russian as a Foreign Language at various educational levels. Minimum five years of classroom teaching experience. Proficiency in virtual teaching methods and educational technology. Strong understanding of pedagogical principles. Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills. Experience in developing and managing online learning environments. Professional proficiency in written and spoken English. Additional Information: Application deadline: Sunday, June 16, 2024.
