FIRST KIDS FIRST TEACHER

First Congregational Church of Los Angeles (FCCLA) is seeking two (2) part-time Teachers for our First Kids First program. The first role focuses on our infant/toddler program and the second role works with our elementary school age children.

General Summary:

Our teachers work every Sunday morning with infants – 5th grade and our youth leaders work with our middle and high school youth, implementing programming. Youth leaders will work with ministry staff to create goals and projects that will be accomplished during the program year. Additionally, our teachers and youth leaders are expected to participate in any special events.

As staff, our teachers and youth leaders are expected to abide by all applicable policies and procedures as detailed in bylaws and policies and procedures of First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, as well as any applicable local, State, or Federal laws. It is necessary for each applicant to complete and pass a background check.

Schedule Notes: This position is required to work Sundays, unless otherwise approved or adjusted by the supervisor. This role will be expected to work up to four hours per week, with potentially more shifts available depending on the ministry needs of the week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In coordination with their supervisor and ministry staff, our teachers and youth leaders will assist in implementing and developing curriculum;
  • Collaborate with music and communication staff for programming on Sundays;
  • Lead each week’s programs;
  • Coordinate efforts around youth justice projects in collaboration with the Associate Minister and FCCLA staff, including the recruitment and assignment of volunteers, project promotion and awareness, and funding and stewardship.
  • Additionally for the infant/toddler teachers, helping plan age appropriate activities and crafts, helping with setup and cleanup, changing diapers, and providing a loving and caring environment for our little ones.

Education & Experience:

  • Previous experience working with infants/toddlers and/or elementary school age children.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Outlook calendar and email functions, and Google Drive is required.
  • The ability to navigate internet search engines, social media, and other job-related websites is required.
  • Related experience in non-profit work or a religious organization is preferred.
  • Enrolled in a local university, college, or community college is preferred.
  • Must be 18 years or older to apply.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None required; CPR/First Aid helpful.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time; constantly traverse/move about inside and outside of classrooms to access file cabinets, lesson materials, office machinery, etc.; constantly traverse/move about inside and outside of the sanctuary, chapel, and other areas of the church building and grounds to assist with the logistics of the program; frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and computer printer; occasionally move and position self to file or store materials in multi-level cabinets; communicate/converse and exchange information with parents, attendees, and staff members; constantly detect or observe computer text as well as text on hardcopy paper; and occasionally move/transport binders, boxes, and lesson materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid outside conditions. The noise level in the environment is moderate.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 per hour
