The Hampton University Upward Bound Program is seeking qualified applicants to serve as academic instructors for our 6-week Virtual Summer Enrichment Academy.Academic instruction should include expertise in the Virginia Standards of Learning Curriculum in English, Upper level/advanced Math, Sciences, or World Language required for high school student graduation.

Please note that these are temporary six-week summer positions.If selected for an interview applicants must bring a copy of their teacher certification, a current resume, a sample lesson plan for the subject area to be taught, and a list of three references.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide classroom instruction to program participants in English, Math, Science, or World Language
Participate in and assist with programmatic needs
Maintain inventory of supplies
Submit order requests for program supplies to Program Director six-weeks before SEA.
Design hands-on, project-based activities for virtual instruction
Complete evaluation reports, keep attendance records, lesson plans, and organize all activities for virtual delivery
Prepare curriculum and course activities, which address the students’ needs, aligned with high school standards
Counsels the students regarding specific weaknesses and strengths
Evaluates the students’ progress and prescribes methods to address problems
Additional duties as assigned
Be available 20 hours per week from Monday –Thursday, June 28, 2021 to July 29, 2021 for direct virtual instruction; and 20 hours for a week of preparation.
Qualifications
Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in specific content subject taught on the high school level
Must be a current licensed NNPS teacher
Have a minimum of two years teaching experience or possess extensive knowledge and sensitivity toward problems of minority and disadvantaged students
Possess an aptitude and passion for creativity
Possess strong listening, communication, and organizational skills
Possess demonstrated experience in teaching students from disadvantaged backgrounds Possess a professional and personal character, which will enable them to work with students, parents and other professionals Understand and be committed to the objectives of the Hampton University Upward Bound Program
Preferred Qualifications:
A teaching certification in area to be taught and a Master’s degree
Desire or possess teaching experience with students from disadvantaged background a plus
Experience working in related educational programs for youth from low-income/disadvantaged backgrounds
