Secondary School Teacher

STARS Academy is a unique, K–Secondary school in West Hills, CA, where students engage in all academic subjects with a musical theater emphasis! The mission of STARS Academy is to successfully educate all students through meaningful academic inquiry guided by the influence of the arts at a rigor that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual learner.

Students work at their appropriate instructional level, regardless of age. Additionally, we focus not only on academics but also on social-emotional development. Our program is arts-integrated, focused on student-centered learning, and is a fully inclusive environment. An important part of STARS Academy’s mission is to provide individualized instruction and ensure each student receives the support they need. To do so, we maintain a low teacher-to-student ratio of 1:7.

We are looking for qualified individuals to join our teaching team for the 2023-24 school year.

Our educators plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary, secondary, or high school learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the Head of School.

This teaching position would be for Middle/High School science and math. Must be qualified to teach these courses.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Develops schemes of work and lesson plans that are in accordance with established procedures.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and school regulations.
  • Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare classroom for class activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls, and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BA minimum. Salary is $45,000-$65,000 per year but will be pro-rated depending on the start day during the year. Full benefits.
