JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Director of Schools and the assistant principal, serve as the art teacher for students in 6th-8th grade.

Students in these grades rotate through art classes.

The art teacher is responsible for planning and delivering VAPA aligned art lessons during 40
– 50 minute blocks while maintaining effective classroom management and utilizing best teaching practices.

During a typical day, the art teacher will teach several classes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote the academic success and holistic growth of all students, collaborate with colleagues on instruction
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
Structure a physical classroom environment conducive to learning, to include efficient classroom management procedures based on restorative justice
Understand and organize subject matter for student learning by developing and implementing an appropriate Scope and Sequence
Engage and support all students in learning by planning VAPA standards-based lessons
Establish and maintain expected standards of student behavior with administrative support
Participate and collaborate in grade-level, staff, and planning meetings
Build relationships with students, staff and parents
Develop as a professional educator and seek to improve competency by regularly participating in professional growth activities
Share the responsibility of communicating the educational program to the community through such activities as back to school nights, parent conferences, and family nights
Teaching at Arts in Action Community Middle School is unique in the following ways:
Multiple structures for creating strong school culture, including AIA Creed, Morning Meeting, social-emotional curriculum, and Restorative Justice practices
Social Justice project based learning where students study current social problems and engage in actions to improve those issues
Full-time School Counselor and Behavior Interventionist on staff to support students and families with behavior and students’ socio
– emotional well-being
Coaching and observation opportunities, dedicated administrative support
QUALIFICATIONS:
California art credential required
Classroom teaching experience strongly preferred
Ability to establish/foster a positive and safe school culture
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues and support student growth
Possesses a growth mindset and a love of learning
WAGE AND BENEFITS: The salary for this job is competitive and commensurate with experience; in addition we offer a competitive benefits package including CALSTRS participation and medical, dental, and vision options.

Starting salary for credentialed teachers is: $54,000.

We are competitive with LAUSD and other salary scales.

Teachers are compensated based on their placement on a salary scale divided into the categories of developing, lead and master teacher.

Compensation is determined based on years of teaching, expertise and education units.
