Job Description To serve as a Faculty Coach at Portal Schools
– an innovative new school model blurring the lines between high school and college.  Coaches will provide secondary instruction, postsecondary advising, and related student support to a cohort of students enrolled in grades 9-12.  Coaches will teach courses, provide support around college level coursework led by our higher education partners, help students with their academic, career, and postsecondary plans, and take a faculty leader role in one of 3 focus areas: personalization, culture or career-connected learning.  Responsibilities Teaching & Learning Deliver on the  vision and mission of Portal Schools with students  Through a PBL and Competency Based approach,  teach, facilitate, and coach student cohorts in our blended flex model in the areas of: subject specific coursework, social emotional learning and career-connected learning Provide personalized learning experiences by meeting students where they are; work with individual students or small groups to reinforce skills needed to progress in competencies Facilitate Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) competency-based college course work and corresponding projects Manage competency-based learning platform and assessments  Aid in student submission and resubmission of competency-based college work Guide students and provide necessary supports and intervention  in order for students to reach the goal of attaining an A.A.

degree and high school diploma within four years Monitor and support students on flex days to ensure sufficient progress on independent competency and coursework completion Track and manage Personalized Learning Plans, which include updates for competency progress, project deadlines, and progress toward individualized goals Provide office hours at least twice a week for additional personalized support Curriculum and Student Guidance Provide faculty leadership in one of three core areas at Portal, and upon expansion, collaborate with leads at other campuses to ensure alignment; area of focus determined by Head of School Support in the development of and implement curriculum that integrates socioemotional learning and identified career competencies Develop core or supplemental curriculum for competency-based coursework in your subject area(s) of expertise; curriculum must be accessible to students online and allow for flexibility in pacing Advise students on post high school options (post-secondary, career, vocation, etc.) Support Head of School in tracking and management of  job shadows, project consults and other career-connected learning opportunities on site for your advisory students School Culture Lead small advisory classes to implement social emotional curriculum, as well as engage in field experiences and build school culture Rotating supervision duties, including: lunch, before and after school, opening and closing the campus, career-connected learning events, and other, as assigned by Head of School Support student recruitment  and outreach, information meetings, onboarding and enrollment management  Attend Restorative Practice training with Portal staff and implement practices in alignment with site team and school guidelines Contributes to a positive school culture through problem solving, thought partnership, and compassion, while embracing a bias for action in line with Portal’s Mission and Vision.

Other duties as assigned by the Head of School Qualifications Belief in the Portal Schools model and non-traditional approaches to student learning Demonstrates a growth mindset, flexibility, can-do attitude, and willingness to lean into challenges Track record of successful experience in either college teaching and/or secondary school teaching preferably in  core subject areas of mathematics (required) Experience counseling, coaching, or advising students (preferred)  Experience working in independent schools (preferred)  Strong desire to mentor students in a variety of areas in an innovative work setting Works well: with students, with parents, with a team on collaborative projects Proficiency in Google Drive, competency-based platforms, and other student facing technology to maximize the student learning experience and efficiency Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (required) Holds teacher or counselor certification (preferred)
