Volunteer Representative

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision, this position will be responsible for the day to day activities of the volunteer department in Down Town and Sylmar. This position will interact directly with groups and people interested in volunteering at URM, including hosting orientations and giving tours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Print volunteer schedule/sign in sheets daily, input volunteer hours and new volunteer applications into software.
  • Hold group orientations and individual orientations as scheduled throughout the week.
  • Give URM and Hope Gardens tours as scheduled.
  • Assist in planning and executing holiday events: particularly, Thanksgiving celebration, Christmas in July, and Christmas store.
  • Will be working overseeing and executing projects and events with individuals and groups who will be volunteering, organizations who may be sponsoring event, and vendors.
  • Prepare supplies and oversee see volunteer group projects.
  • Travel as needed between both URM facilities and on occasion Bell Warehouse.
  • Carry out other tasks and projects as assigned by the Manager.
  • Work with and communicate with various departments mission wide.
  • Work with Volunteer Department coordinator carrying out department needs.
  • Work with the Operations department to carry out various tasks.
  • On occasion answer phones and emails for those interested in volunteering.
  • Commitment to URM mission, vision, and core values.
  • Encourage volunteers of faith and growth in Jesus Christ.

• Manual dexterity required for occasional lifting of supplies and boxes. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

.Requirements:

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES:

  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience in a customer service-oriented setting handling high volume calls and email; ideally, including previous event planning/volunteer organization work
  • Must have intermediate level working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and be internet savvy. Salesforce experience a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Flexible schedule; willing to work on Saturdays as well as evenings/weekends as needed for special events.
  • Must possess excellent people and customer service skills, and be comfortable talking in large group settings/ giving tours of facility.
  • Must possess the ability to multitask, diffuse angry/frustrated people and groups, and the ability to deal with the Skid Row population.
  • Must be willing to wear multiple hats and take initiative.
  • Familiar with event set up and managing people/volunteers.
