Overview World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Community Partnership Leader for our WWF US Arctic program.
In collaboration with the supervisor and other staff members, the Community Partnership Leader plans, manages, communicates about, implements and monitors activities to engage with local partners in the US Arctic region (Bering, Beaufort and Chukchi seas).
The person in this role also supports community priorities and builds relationships with Alaska Native partners and other coastal communities.
Major Function In face of the rapid changes brought about by climate change, including increasing development such as mining and shipping in the region, WWF-Alaska aims to support greater local involvement in decision-making about marine conservation and sound development.
We seek a leader experienced in developing effective multi-constituency partnerships that improve the effectiveness of conservation programs while meeting local community needs.

The Community Partnerships Leader plans, manages, communicates, implements and monitors activities to engage with local partners; supports community priorities; and builds relationships with Alaska Native Organization (ANO) partners and other coastal communities.
The position is based in Alaska, ideally in the WWF Anchorage office, but can be flexible.

– Focus on Community Perspective Maintains awareness and understanding of Indigenous priority issues and concerns in the areas where WWF works and contributes this expertise to guide the design and implementation of WWF conservation projects Enhances and builds relationships, knowledge, and capacity within and between members of majority-Indigenous communities, the WWF-US Arctic Program, and the Alaskan community at large Oversees and contributes to the design and implementation of a Stakeholder Engagement Plan as part of WWF Alaska’s Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework Leads and/or participates in community and partner group meetings Supports development of fundraising proposals and plans for funding from private foundations and/or other donors.
Prepares and finalizes scopes of work, budgets, and administrative information for contracts and to ensure compliance with donor requirements.
Monitors and evaluates the performance outcomes and status of all relevant initiatives/ activities and evaluates and reports these results, as well as recommendations for adaptive action; reports back, verbally and in writing Develops and analyzes project plans and budgets related to communities and partnerships May supervise consultants in their work toward project and program goals and objectives Support WWF’s engagement in the Arctic Youth Ambassadors program Partnership Management Supports, develops and manages important relationships with Alaskan non-governmental partners, Alaska Native Organizations and any other stakeholders with respect to area-based conservation and issues such as shipping (e.g., noise, oil spills, ship collisions) Leads WWF-Alaska’s community outreach efforts, including organizing and facilitating meetings and interviews, and traveling throughout the program area Seeks opportunities to create joint learning forums on emerging information about marine protected areas, best practices and experiences from other Arctic countries with Alaskan constituencies Responds to partner or prospective partner requests for oral and written information Works directly with project personnel, grantees, donors, consultants, and others to facilitate communication and regular reporting Innovative Collaboration Creates opportunities for community involvement and leadership Collaborates with US Coast Guard, NOAA, and other agencies to advocate for community role in agency plans.
(e.g., ensure community voices are represented in an on-site bi-lateral oil spill response exercise being planned in the next two years) Builds bridges between scientific entities and local communities as needed, to support information sharing and integration of diverse types of knowledge Performs other duties and assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant experience in building and maintaining relationships with Alaskan Indigenous communities, facilitating workshops and managing programs.
Experience in environmental, public health, community development or food security issues is preferred Experience in Alaska and Arctic communities; track record of partnerships Excellent facilitation skills Deep experience as a listener Proven ability to communicate, engage and manage relationships with partners, funders, and their own team Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising, budgeting, and monitoring donor compliance Excellent organizational skills Strong project management skills Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, to meet deadlines and commitments Ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities Ability to travel up to 50% Ability to work effectively as a team member with a wide range of individuals, possibly across cultures and time zones Preference given for fluency in or familiarity with at least one Alaska Native language Position requires a deep understanding of Alaskan Native Tribes culture & values, and as such preference given to an enrolled member of an Alaska Native tribe Identifies and aligns with the core values of the WWF organization: Courage, Integrity, Respect & Collaboration Please Note: This position is based in Alaska, ideally in the WWF Anchorage office, but can be flexible.
