Position

The Business Development Sales Representative will implement, coordinate and manage cost-effective fundraising and member acquisition and retention activities to assist the Chamber in attaining its financial goals. This position acts as liaison between the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, its members and investors, and the local community and is a position based upon achieving aggressive annual revenue goals.

It is a fulltime, exempt, salary position with full benefits including accrual of 10 paid sick days annually, approximately 15 paid holidays, and vacation starting at an accrual rate of 10 paid days per year; 100 percent employer paid Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance for employee only; 3 percent employer contribution to 401(k); Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA); Long Term Disability; Life Insurance; and Employee Assistance and Wellness programs.

The Business Development Sales Representative position is under the Membership Division of the Chamber and reports to the VP of Membership and works closely with the Director of Strategic Partnerships & Events to identify and drive new partnership investment opportunities (membership and sponsorship) across the Chamber’s programs and all Signature Events as well as improve membership retention.

The position also works with leadership committees, Chamber staff, Strategic Partners, volunteers and community leaders to assist in meeting the financial goals.

The Development Sales Representative assists/develops/maintains relationships with business leaders in the Region and with Corporate HQs outside of the Los Angeles region and identifies, cultivates and manages best-in-class strategic partnerships with Corporate investors to support the overall mission and goals of the Chamber and its members.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Revenue Generation: Achieve revenue through Membership (new and retention) and sponsorships utilizing organizational best practices, achieve specific revenue budget, manage the timeline & logistics for sponsorship solicitation.
  • Utilize Sales Process &Techniques: Generate leads and cold calling, develop opportunities in target markets, follow-up, sell memberships, partnerships, achieve sales quota. Assess prospective member needs & priorities to make appropriate connections to Chamber programs & benefits.
  • Achievement of Sales Goals: Consistently meet monthly sales activity & production minimums. Leverage upselling of investor tiers, membership upgrades, & sponsorships to drive new revenue/deeper member engagement.
  • Relationship Building: Nurturing and developing relationships with key customer accounts.
  • Organizational Effectiveness: Proficiency in CRM systems that track & manage revenue generating activities, volunteer leadership, and internal systems of the Chamber. Prepare/maintain accurate records/data to evaluate cost-effectiveness, profitability, and public awareness of events and activities. Monitor income/expense budgets, compilation/analysis of event statistics, research & analyze community fundraising potential versus actual revenues, etc.
  • Identify new strategic partnerships & value propositions, and create investment/sponsor packages, that meet the needs of our partners while building new revenue streams for the Chamber. Working with the SVP, collaborate with [all department] to build strong relationships with key Corporate partners.

  • Develop internal tools / KPIs to measure strategic partner.

· Demonstrate a commitment to the Chamber mission in all work produced.

· All other duties as assigned by COO and/or VP of Membership

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Ideal candidate has experience developing external relationships and is used to working in a fast-paced culture. This individual is a strategic thinker that can creatively craft partnerships that mutually benefit the Chamber, our members, and our partners.
  • 5 to 7 years of prior related work experience, preferably in sales in a not-for-profit setting.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated skills in taking initiative, problem-solving, negotiating and driving results.
  • 5-7 years of experience with a proven track record of success in personally fundraising, and identifying and executing revenue-generating partnerships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required – the ability to gracefully handle rejection and bounce back assuring goals are met. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills required; ability to cold call, grow both local and corporate HQ contacts and build and nurture effective business relationships to increase Chamber visibility, brand awareness, volunteer staff and revenue.
  • Strategic and collaborative thinker combined with a relentless focus on execution to maximize partnership opportunities.
  • Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, customer service, and relationship-building skills; able to engage with all levels of an organization, a strong team player.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend and analyze financial goals and fundraising reports and generate required reports on a timely basis.
  • Microsoft Office suite and database experience
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience
