ROLE SUMMARY:
The Youth Outreach Specialist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the provision of services to children, youth, adults and their families and caregivers supported at Wellnest’s Avis and Mark Ridley-Thomas Life Learning Center (LLC).
The Youth Outreach Specialist works closely with assigned young people to represent their best interests and participate as a member in team support activities and interventions for individuals at the LLC.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides peer support to young people and their families and caregivers to promote stability and improve functioning
Supports and facilitates community linkages for LLC young people their families/caregivers
Document services and supports offered to LLC young people
Fosters support and trust with children, youth, adults and their families and caregivers to create strong relationships through which clients receive the services and resources they need
Builds relationships with young people and community partners through outreach and engagement opportunities
Conducts individual supportive sessions and group supportive sessions
Creates and conducts life skill building lessons for LLC young people
Provides linkage and access to resources to LLC young people
Co-facilitates recruitment of young people to LLC and to Youth Advisory Board
Co-facilitates Youth Advisory Board Meetings and assists with structure development
Practices with a trauma informed, healing centered approach providing services in the field and in office as needed
Demonstrates a strong ability to communicate in a team, and provides creative interventions that support, mobilize and motivate young people
Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of a high school diploma is required.
Must have received services from one of the following entities: Department of Mental Health (DMH) or any other mental health services, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), Department of Children Family Services (DCFS) Department of Probation (DPO), and/or Department of Public Health (DPH).
The successful applicant will have lived experience of being diagnosed with a mental illness or having a family member diagnosed with a mental illness and/or have received support from one of the above-mentioned departments in addition to a minimum of one-year experience in providing peer/parent support and community linkage.
Employee must have the ability to use a personal vehicle with the required insurance coverage to complete the essential duties of their job and conduct agency business.
Employee must maintain a valid California drivers license and clean driving record that meets Wellnest’s insurance carriers criteria for liability coverage.
In keeping with Company policy for all employees, the successful applicant must also complete a test for TB, and fingerprint clearance by the Department of Justice.

Per the CDC and Department of Public Health, individuals are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19: two weeks or more after they have received the second dose in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna or vaccine authorized by the World Health Organization), or two weeks or more after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson (J&J)/Janssen).
