VP People

About The Role and Your Impact:

Reporting to the CEO and co-founder, the VP of People will play a critical role in defining Company’s people and talent strategy, culture, and values as the company grows. The VP of People will bring best practices and learnings from previous experiences and apply them in building innovative People strategies and processes here at Company. As a member of the leadership team, the VP of People will be a strategic business partner who will advise, coach, and partner with the executive team and other senior leaders. Diversity and inclusion is a top priority for the company and this person should have a track record of building a diverse and inclusive workforce at all levels, across all functions. This person will lead a team of about seven people, which will approximately double in the coming year. 

How You Will Contribute:

  • Act as a strategic advisor and business partner to the leadership team and other senior leaders to drive innovation, alignment, and efficiency across the organization in order to achieve the overall business and growth goals
  • Educate, advise and influence business leaders on organizational design, organizational development, competency models, talent assessment and succession planning, employee engagement and retention, performance criteria and measurement, talent reviews and change management
  • Stand up the pillars of the People function, including but not limited to talent acquisition, learning and development, HR operations, total rewards, and diversity and inclusion; Recruit, develop, and retain a high performing People and Culture team 
  • Implement appropriate structures, processes, and meaningful metrics that will enable the company to scale 
  • Provide feedback and coaching to further develop the management capabilities of the leadership team; Develop programs that prepare high potential employees for future management roles 
  • Remain apprised on trends in the market and execute a recruitment, development, and retention strategy for top talent; Design employment branding initiatives that increase brand awareness; Oversee executive recruitment 
  • Partner with leaders to understand and anticipate hiring and development needs against the capabilities needed to deliver business objectives; Prepare updated workforce plans and forecasts that support overall business goals
  • Maintain core values and ensure that decisions, programs, and processes are aligned with Company’s culture and beliefs; Develop a diverse, emotionally intelligent, and inclusive culture that welcomes and increases diversity of thought, backgrounds and perspectives 
  • Build a strong culture of collaboration, teamwork, and trust in a remote first work environment and scale that culture as the company grows 

Skills You Will Bring: 

The VP of People will be a strategic, dynamic, and cross-functional leader and collaborator who is energized by blank canvases. This person is an efficient and effective problem solver, who is solutions-oriented, flexible, and thrives in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. This person should be comfortable with ambiguity and have excellent judgement. The VP of People should be an expert at influencing and managing change, an excellent listener and communicator, and should set a high bar for themselves as well as their team. This person enjoys being a mentor and will have the desire to inspire, develop, and grow his or her team. To be successful, this person will demonstrate a bias towards action balanced with thoughtfully driving toward strategic, long-term goals. As the company is scaling quickly, this person needs to possess a startup mentality and be ready to roll up their sleeves to get the work done. 

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • 10+ years of progressive and hands-on HR and People experience, with a minimum of 5+ years leading People teams in high growth tech companies. SaaS experience is not required but preferred. Experience in a remote first/flexible or distributed work environment is also a plus.
  • Leadership skills and a desire to bring innovative thinking to the People function and a track record of developing and building strong people teams 
  • The ability to be strategic and design for the future while balancing the current needs of the organization. 
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to create strategies that advance the development of our teams and the strategic financial trajectory of the company
  • A demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships across all levels of the organization and across all functions. Highly collaborative and able to mobilize a team around common goals.
  • Strong coaching and advisory skills and deeply experienced with engaging and influencing the leadership team 
  • A strong desire to grow, mentor, and develop his/her own team
  • A clear communicator who knows how to address a diverse audience 
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This person has a bias for action balanced with thoughtfully driving toward strategic, long term goals
  • A high level of ownership, confidentiality, and attention to detail
