VP Implementation Operations

The Vice President, Implementation Operations directs and coordinates a team of professionals with the objective of effectively implementing the Board-approved and prioritized recommendations. Individual in this position directs the implementation program to ensure COMPANY fulfills the intended objective of recommendations, while driving the organization toward streamlining of processes and implementing consistent, reliable and predictable means of execution.

The Vice President ensures that all required resources necessary for a fully agreed-upon, adequately resourced, appropriately scheduled plan of actions are capable, available, and committed to the implementation work. In leading the implementation work, this role ensures full transparency of the implementation work, status, and effectiveness to all stakeholders, internally and externally.

This role also includes providing support to the review process and helping the Review Support and Accountability and the community-led review teams to issue implementable recommendations by ensuring that recommendations adopted have clear and achievable goals.

The Vice President also provides direct support to all Board activities related to review implementation, including board caucus and working groups, and will represent the COMPANY org and provide justification of the org’s response to the recommendations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Team management

  • Directs and manages the Implementation Operations team.
  • Responsible for managing, coaching and developing a team of highly effective and respected professionals.
  • Responsible for developing and strengthening the team to excel in facilitating solutions to complex problems, leveraging organizational resources and best practices.
  • Leads the team in creating and maintaining a collaborative and purposeful means of interaction with cross-functional teams and COMPANY community leaders to build consensus and support the mission critical work of COMPANY.
  • Leads the team in evolving meaningful measures of performance and impact by defining and measuring the development of key performance Indicators and measures.

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Promote transparency and accountability throughout COMPANY.
  • Directs and collaborate with the cross-functional teams that are responsible for the implementation work.
  • Drives process improvements and innovation by directing cross-functional teams and on application of organizational excellence principles and frameworks, relevant industry best practices and standards.
  • Drives improvement in the way COMPANY demonstrates its accountability and transparency through leading a cross-functional team in developing regular, sustainable and user-friendly reporting mechanisms.
  • Consistently works with complex recommendations impacting COMPANY’s strategic direction and future viability, across functional areas.

Executive/Board/Community communication/interaction

  • Advises Executives and Board on complex issues of strategic significance.
  • Ensures alignment of all stakeholders on the implementation workplan and schedule.
  • Responsible for identification of risks and implementation of effective mitigation strategies, while providing timely and relevant briefings to Executives and the Board.
  • Drives organizational excellence, high-level of stakeholder satisfaction and creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Provides timely and relevant advice to COMPANY leadership and the Board on complex issues that impact COMPANY’s strategic direction.
  • Oversees the development of a compelling means of communicating the value and impact of the work of the reviews and their implementation to COMPANY staff, board and community through effective presentations and communications. Leads the process to communicate what the Implementation Operations department does and how it benefits the community.
  • Interacts internally and externally with senior level management, which may require negotiation of critical matters. Oversees the management of key relationships with cross-functional teams, Board members and COMPANY community leaders. Keeps abreast of new industry developments and competitive forces.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

  • In-depth knowledge of organization’s functional area, business strategies and goals.
  • Strong operational expertise and excellent project management skills.
  • Proven ability to build consensus, influence people and use negotiation tactics in a manner suitable to the COMPANY environment.
  • Proven analytical skills and a strategic thinker.
  • Ability to analyze and control key drivers of costs and resources, including a “Return on Investment” mind set suitable to the COMPANY environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated abilities to lead without authority, convince and engage a wide range of resources.
  • Ability to quickly learn the COMPANY environment and its current issues.
  • Able to cope with continuous change, shifting priorities and high pressure in a dynamic, global environment.
  • Proven success in managing diverse teams working remotely and independently and establishing and executing on priorities.
  • International travel is expected as part of this role.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of related work experience.
  • Specialized training in: project management, strategic planning, vendor management, budgeting.
  • Management experience in a consulting environment.
  • Proven experience with some or all of the following — enterprise integration and restructuring, change management, organization design, process and operations management.
  • International experience and a demonstrated understanding of differences in global perspectives and cultural sensitivities.

Language

  • Fluency, both written and spoken, in English is required.
  • Fluent written and spoken language skills in any of the other official United Nations languages is strongly preferred.
