Description

The Vice Principal for Grades 5-8, under the direction of the Principal, implements, enforces and monitors Diocesan, State and school policies.

The Vice Principal is responsible for the supervision and monitoring of faculty in grades 5-8 as well as the supervision and monitoring of the 300 students in 5-8.

Leadership

• Articulate and model the school’s mission, philosophy and Student Learning Expectations to the school community and community at large.

• Assist the Principal in the development and administration of policies and procedures in accordance with Archdiocesan and State guidelines and WCEA/WASC goals and criterion.

• Assist the Principal in the communications between administration and the 5-8 faculty and support and implement Archdiocesan and school policies and procedures.

• Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the School Improvement Plan.

• Provide leadership to the 5-8 faculty in determining objectives and identifying the school needs as the basis for developing long and short term plans for the school.

• Develop, maintain and use information systems to maintain and records to track progress on school performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

• Use current research, performance data and feedback from teachers, parents and students to make decisions on program changes and/or modifications.

• Principal in establishing and implementing procedures to be used in event of school crisis and provide leadership in such events.

• Assist in maintaining a safe school environment.

• Assist in monitoring and implementing the assigned budgets as directed by the Principal.

• Communicate regularly to the Principal.

• Deal sensitively, respectfully, and fairly with all members of the school community.

• Communicate effectively with all 5-8 faculty and students.

Use appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide all 5-8 faculty to task accomplishments.

• Be proactive in recognizing and solving grades 5-8 concerns and problems.

Anticipate problems as plans are developed.

• Model and maintain high standards of personal conduct.

Set professional standards for all 5-8 faculty.

• Adjust strategies to accommodate unexpected situations.

• Attend in-services to keep current in educational/professional practices.

• Screen, select, assign, supervise and evaluate performance of faculty; motivating employee performance and enhancing morale.

Final hiring and salary decisions are made in conjunction with the Principal.

• Implement a faculty supervision plan.

• Orient new teachers and regularly monitor their progress.

• Assist and support faculty in the development of effective classroom management and organization.

• Support teacher needs with parents to include, if requested or needed, participation in parent conferences, direct communication with parents, phone calls, etc.

Be proactive in anticipating faculty needs with parents.

• Refer challenging faculty & staff discipline issues to the Principal.

• Assist in assessing, planning, organizing, implementing faculty development and training, encourage and support professional growth.

• Work with Principal to ensure coverage for teachers that are absent.

• Supervise substitute teachers for grades 5-8.

• Monitor teachers’ lesson plans as per faculty supervision plan.

• Participate in grade level weekly planning meetings providing support when necessary.

Communicate school-wide needs and support specific grade levels.

Maintain accurate minutes to be copied to the President.

• Review and approve any newsletters and general communication from the teachers to the parents.

Ensure a copy is forwarded to the Principal.

• Assist in the development and planning and obtain Principal’s approval for special curricular and non-curricular events for grade levels.

Public Relations

• Assist in communicating to parents regarding all phases of the grades 5-8 education program; assist the Principal in carrying out a program of community relations.

• Maintain visibility and accessibility in the school campus and at school-related activities and events as needed for grade level activities.

Curriculum

• Lead the overall instructional program by interpreting and implementing curriculum program to meet the unique needs of students and community.

• Develop long and short range plans to improve the instructional process in line with WCEA/WASC action goals.

• Establish procedures for evaluation and selection of instructional materials and equipment, approving all recommendations.

• Facilitate the planning of innovative educational programs.

• Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff.

• Supervise the instructional programs of the school by periodically evaluating lesson plans and observing classes to encourage the use of the variety of instructions strategies and materials.

• Oversee the administration of various testing programs for grades 5-8

Requirements

All Preferred candidates must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in education or educational leadership from an accredited university.

• A valid teaching credential.

• A valid certification for Basic First Aid and CPR.

• A minimum of five years of teaching experience preferably in a Catholic educational setting.

• A high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information.

• A strong set of written and verbal communication skills.

• An ability and willingness to work independently and as a team.

• A Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church.

• A strong set of interpersonal, verbal communication and written communication skills with a history of working collaboratively with others.

• A history of professional goal-setting, organization, implementation, and reflection for projects and programs.

• A strong command of digital skills including use of Microsoft Office, PowerSchool or equivalent Parish/School data management system, Adobe Acrobat, Google applications, and Edlio or other teacher website equivalent.

• A willingness to employ new technologies.

• A flexible demeanor and willingness to adapt to school schedule changes, special events, and celebrations that helps foster the school’s mission of teaching to the whole child.

• A perspective of Catholic education as a ministry, not just a job.
