  Job Details: COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

This position will play a critical role in promoting and protecting City National’s brand.

The Communications Specialist will work with City National Bank and all internal stakeholders to execute strategies that promote the bank’s brand reputation and growth.

The successful candidate will craft unique and compelling stories and content, develop communications plans that align with business goals, secure opportunities for media coverage, develop internal communications, and draft remarks for executives.

The position will research and distribute City National and Royal Bank of Canada’s earnings and financial information quarterly and annually.

This job will also entail identifying potential media stories, training and pitching executives for print and TV appearances, and organizing an editorial calendar.

The successful candidate will work closely with City National’s events and social media teams to create awareness opportunities and amplify the bank’s key messages

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

You will be working closely with peer members of the Corporate Communications team, part of City National’s Marketing, Product & Digital division.

This team plays an important role in advancing and protecting the company’s brand internally and externally, as well as articulating its value proposition and supporting business development.

Craft press releases, internal announcements and other internal and external communications that properly capture and convey the brand’s tone and messaging Identify and pitch stories to media; secure media coverage for key initiatives and executives Develop executive talking points for media appearances and internal and external event appearances and conduct qualitative and quantitative research to support executive remarks Lead the reporting of CNB’s corporate financial information, including CNB’s quarterly and annual financial information, and C-suite bios to align with RBC’s quarterly earnings releases Manage company-wide internal email process and calendar, ensuring that our colleagues are well-informed and that our communications convey key messages and values Scan for and flag media coverage Coordinate with social media, events and marketing teams as well as colleagues across the bank to drive awareness and amplify the bank’s messages
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Must-Have*
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in public relations or communications Minimum of 2 years’ experience in financial communications
Skills and Knowledge
BA/BS degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations or related communications field Four to seven years of public relations or communications experience Finance/banking background preferred Journalism, editing, AP Style, business background a plus Excellent writing and copy-editing skills required Must be able to provide high attention to detail Knowledge and proficiency in social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) Must possess an interpersonal style that enables effective relationships with peers and senior executives in the execution of job responsibilities Strong background in corporate communications, business writing, media relations and digital communications.

Must be capable of working well independently and in teams.

Intermediate level knowledge of MS Office,(Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint) and SharePoint is needed.
