The Surgical Services Scheduler is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner with respect and dignity.

Under the supervision of the Director of Perioperative Services, the Surgical Services Scheduler must demonstrate technical competence, communication skills and sensitivity.

Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position, and follow Hospital policy and standards of patient care.

Receives general instructions on all assignments and in accordance with the standards, policies, and practices of Valley Presbyterian Hospital.

2 years in a fast-paced medical or clerical fieldPrevious surgical scheduling experience preferredEDUCATION:High School graduate or equivalentSome college, medical terminology course, management coursesLICENSURES/CERTIFICATION:Must successfully complete and maintain LA City Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employmentDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These are the essential job functions for this position.

Employees hired for this position must be able to perform the essential function of this job without imposing significant risk of substantial harm to the health or safety of themselves or others):Responsible for performing scheduling functions in the Meditech Central-wide scheduling system.Maintains surgery schedule, collaborating closely with OR manager, clinical supervisor and Anesthesia department.Notifies essential parties to changes within the day’s schedule.Processes scheduling information from physicians and physician office staff to schedule procedures in a timely mannerFunctions as a liaison between MD office, OR Scheduler and ancillary services.Crosscheck paperwork for quality of reservation request, quality of data, appropriate MD order.Responsible to check phones messages, and return phone calls within a timely mannerObtains financial and demographic data necessary to ensure a smooth pre-admission process.Requests all necessary insurance information including insurance cards copiesDistributes face sheets or electronic data to appropriate departments in a timely manner.Always answers telephone in a prompt, courteous manner.Flexible in schedule if required to work another shift, other than regular shift.Responds to requests in a friendly, cooperative manner, as determined by feedback from guests, the supervisor and manager.Participates in “Daily Huddles” with surgical team to facilitate resource allocations.Adheres to “Block Scheduling Policy”Finalize schedule at the of the day and distribute as appropriate.The following job accountabilities are not unique to this particular job but are common to all jobs at VPH:Complies with VPH policies and procedures on customer satisfaction and service excellence.
