The technologist provides front office duties to help support the overall clerical operations of the Cardiology Department.EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:Work in a healthcare setting for a minimum of 6 months is preferredFront office/desk experience preferredBasic computer skillsEDUCATION:High school diploma or equivalentLICENSURES/CERTIFICATION:Basic EKG Interpretation Course Certificate preferredMedical Terminology Course Certificate recommendedMust successfully complete and maintain BLS certificationMust successfully complete and maintain LA County Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employmentDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These are the essential job functions for this position.

Employees hired for this position must be able to perform the essential function of this job without imposing significant risk of substantial harm to the health or safety of themselves or others):Performs electrocardiograms, stress testing, holter, TAM-II monitoring, and front office clerical duties.Explains test procedures to patients, providing direction in assuming the prescribed positions and activity of the patient.Observes patient complaint of pain and reports to Registered Nurse.Performs all related clerical duties of the front office/front desk of Cardiology: chart documentation, logging, pulling/filing charts, new/old file maintenance, and generate/cancel orders (Meditech), patient billing, reception, and general schedule maintenance.Answers phones: records all messages, voice mail, place/transfer calls, pages personnel, and communicates requests/orders of procedures to Cardiology staff.Adheres to requirements and recommendations of the National Patient Safety Goals.Assists cardiology supervisor and administrative secretary.Observes processes in the work area and provides input for Process Improvement initiatives.Maintains office supplies: ordering and restocking of supplies/department forms.Makes copies and performs basic copy machine maintenance, calls for repairs.Follows the policies and procedures of the hospital as well as the Department of Cardiology.Promotes teamwork and a positive attitude within the working environment.Displays knowledge of patient rights as they relate to delivery of care.Communicates in a clear, concise manner appropriate to the developmental stage of the patient.Transports patients, studies and equipment to/from the department.Participates in EKG coverage as needed on the weekends.Participates in the cross-training program of the department and assists with the training of new employees.The following job accountabilities are not unique to this particular job but are common to all jobs at VPH:Complies with VPH policies and procedures on customer satisfaction and service excellence.

Understands the importance of safety, including patient safety in the work place.

Maintains a safe environment for self and others.Actively participates in the Patient Safety Program, including event reporting.

Identifies sentinel events/near misses and responds per defined organization processes.

Participates in education activities and process implementation.
