Underwriting Assistant

Vikco is seeking a full time Underwriting Assistant to join its team in Danville, San Diego, or Los Angeles offices.

The Underwriting Assistant will be processing new and renewal submissions for commercial property exposures insuring mostly against catastrophe perils, including earthquake.

Responsibilities include reviewing applications, rating, binders, processing cancellations and reinstatements, requesting and reviewing inspections, reviewing historical loss information, accessing various computer systems and applications, and communicating with underwriters and brokers.

Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Assist in the general underwriting process collecting information and data from brokers.
Work with Underwriters and at their direction, assist with underwriting, rating, pricing and quoting of business.
Complete formal rating and documentation of bound business.
Maintain renewal listing and follow up with brokers as necessary for renewal information.
Develop strong working relationships with broker offices.
New, renewal and endorsement processing including rating, binding and policy issuance.
Maintain all correspondence activity with brokers including daily diaries on pending transactions.
Risk modeling utilizing RMS RiskBrowser, AIR Touchstone and Intermap systems
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and No Prior Experience or High School Diploma and two or more years of experience in administrative, data entry, financial services, or risk management.
1 – 3 years’ insurance experience, with earthquake underwriting experience a big plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines.
Strong Computer Skills including familiarity with or ability to learn catastrophe risk models and proprietary computer systems.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook).
Excellent attention to detail.
Proven team player and energetic personality.
Commercial property insurance experience is preferred, but not required.
