GD& T experience should be summarized on the candidate’s resume ** ** Candidates must have significant modeling and drafting experience with Creo CAD software.
Windchill experience strongly preferred.
** 10 years minimum of related experience as technical Design Engineer in rocket propulsion hardware or equivalent (pressurized systems and/or high temperature systems) and experience as technical Designer using ProE/Creo CAD systems ** ** Knowledge in the design of bi-propellant rocket engines (high temperature combustion chambers, nozzles, injectors, valves, and other associated rocket engine hardware) is preferred ** Duties Design Engineer Must be able to create or modify designs of mechanical components and assemblies supporting propulsion hardware operating at high temperatures & pressures and in corrosive environments.
Design of mechanical hardware that supports developing and testing new products Applies research to the planning design, development and testing of bi-propellant rocket combustion chambers, nozzles, injectors, valves, and other associated rocket engine hardware.
Majority of work will be to develop and maintain component and assembly layouts, designs/CAD models, and drawings using Creo5 graphics system for liquid engine hardware.
Activities: conceptual design creation, design layouts, GD& T application, toleranceanalysis, systems design and integration, fabrication process identification, synthesis of higher level requirements to component level requirements.
Conduct trade studies and develop schedules, test plans, component specifications and procedures.Qualifications & Requirements:Skills: Candidates must have significant experience with Creo & GD&T.
Higher level certifications are preferred.
Windchill experience strongly preferred.
Mechanical Design and development Engineers research, develop, analyze, design, and support fabrication of components using engineering and scientific principles.
Engineers are also required to analyze and verify product design and performance for adequacy and reliability.
Support or lead investigation and resolution of hardware and process anomalies and issues identified by preventative action/corrective action boards and/or safety initiative activities.
Must be able to interface well with other members of project or program team, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions to meet group, organization, and company objectives.
Must be able to prepare and make presentations at both internal and customer design reviews.
Target mechanical experience CREO 5 (working level experience) Windchill Product Lifecyle Management (PLM) experience Pressurized fluid systems (gas and liquid) High pressure systems 10,000 psi gaseous and 2000 liquid Machined hardware (subtractive manufacturing) Additive manufacturing (some…may 10%) Component design Hardware integration Joining methods – Welding, bolted joints, mechanical fittings Stainless steel tubing for fluid routing – bent tubing, orbital welding, mechanical end connections, ¼” to ¾” diameter, .027 to .035 wall thickness Integration thrusters, valves (often times supplier parts), pyro valve, regulators, orifices, ancillary hardware such as machined custom brackets to off the shelf p-clamps.
Materials – 300 series SS, Inconel, Aluminum, Titanium Material compatibility considerations to Hydrazine and N2O4.
Helium, Nitrogen, Argon Experience working with integrated product teams Experience working with analysis teams to evaluate structural margins (to include CAD model preparation for meshing) Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance Specification knowledge and practical application to include tolerance stackups Mechanical part selection (picking out bolts, washers, o-ring, Teflon seals, p-clamps, etc.) and preparing the geometry in the hardware under design Machine shop experience desired Precision, tight tolerance machined hardware (some tolerances down to +/ .001) Needs to have ability to prepare and present designs for team review Self starter, deadline driven Keywords: Education: BS degree in an Engineering field or equivalent field.
