Life & Style and Closer Weekly are looking for an experienced, savvy staff writer who eats, sleeps and breathes celebrity and entertainment news.
The staff writer will be responsible for pitching and writing multiple relevant celebrity and entertainment news articles daily, ranging from quick-hit posts to long-form evergreens and galleries.
This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles, but we are currently remote.
The ideal candidate should be a skilled, clean writer with extensive knowledge of AP Style, impeccable news judgment, and the ability to expertly cover both lighthearted and sensitive content.
The writer should also be a detail-oriented self-starter; they should be efficient in juggling multiple stories, extremely comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and independently, and be a prolific idea generator who isn’t afraid to pitch new content ideas and formats.
Responsibilities include:
Pitching relevant, timely news and evergreen story ideas daily Writing 6-8 news stories per day Diligently tracking celebrity, entertainment, viral, and pop-culture news throughout the day, on top of the brand’s internal reporting Tracking article analytics frequently to guide and refine pitching strategy Willingness to work some evenings, weekends, holidays, award shows, and breaking news events as needed
Requirements:
A passion for celebrity and entertainment news Minimum 3 years of experience writing for a competitive, high-volume, news-driven entertainment website Strong understanding of SEO best practices Experience with covering breaking, hard news Proficiency in Google Analytics Firm grasp on AP Style Top-tier organizational skills and ability to pivot quickly and efficiently when news breaks Ability to multi-task and juggle and meet several deadlines Excellent editorial judgment A can-do, collaborative attitude
