The Senior Research Project Advisor works independently and with the Principal Investigator Dr. Eduardo Marban as an expert in the area of research specialization to develop and implement research programs. The Senior Advisor participates in the research and academic activities of the department, strategic planning, philanthropic development to support research efforts, senior administrative leadership recruitment, and have joint final oversight of proposals with the director.  Participates in national meetings and conferences, identifies potential collaborators and research sponsors, and maintains relationships with colleagues and National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies.  Ensures compliance with all federal and local agencies including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and local Institutional Review Board.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as departmental resource for scientific initiatives and major research projects and identifies funding opportunities.
  • Communicates the feasibility of study involvement and or participation with the PI.
  • Independently and as part of a team, develops and implements research programs, including project planning.
  • Participate in contract negotiations and intellectual property determinations. 
  • Maintain accountability for management and financial aspects of all discovery and preclinical development. 
  • Prepares grant proposals including scientific writing and authors manuscripts for publication and books for publication; prepares presentations for both expert and lay audiences.
  • Partner with principal investigator, is an expert in the area of research specialization.
  • Represents the interests of the department in inter-and intra-institutional research projects; provides expertise for research collaborations.
  • Maintains excellent relationships with colleagues, locally, nationally, and internationally; has an excellent, positive relationship with National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills for interactions with faculty, administrators, and employees.
  • Participates in philanthropic development of the department to support research efforts.
  • May function as bridge between laboratory, translational, and clinical research programs.
  • May be responsible for research process improvement, quality assurance, and problem solving for the department.
  • May develop curriculum and lead all aspects of coordination of small and large scientific symposia.
  • Maintains research practices using Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
  • Maintain strict adherence to research compliance regulatory standards for human and animal subjects use.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations and applicable law.

Educational Requirements:

Masters Degree, required

Experience:

Ten (10) years minimum experience in directly related field.

Basic research background in RNA biology and/or chemistry. 

Drug development experience in RNA therapeutics.

Project management experience.

Experience with FDA regulatory pathways at preIND and IND levels.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Physical Demands:

Lifting, standing, sitting in front of a computer for periods of time.
