Sr. Benefits Specialist

A large nonprofit seeks a Sr.

Benefits Specialist.

This position will report to the HR Benefits Manager and will coordinate, administer, and process leaves of absence, workers’ compensation claims, requests for reasonable accommodation and ergonomic evaluations.

Serves as the Division’s point of contact for day-to-day operations of all group benefits and addresses health/welfare program and retirement plan inquiries/issues.n n Job Requirements: n RESPONSIBILITIES: n Leaves of Absence n Serves as the subject matter expert for the leave of absence programs.

Stays abreast of legislative updates that affect LOAs.

Interprets and administers leave programs and policies to ensure administrative practices are in compliance with applicable federal and state laws such as HIPAA, FMLA, PDL, CFRA, ADA, USERRA and all other applicable regulations.

Act as an advisor consultant with employees, supervisors and managers with respect to leave of absence designation, work status and return to work process.

Independently approves and/or denies leave cases based on all relevant medical information and documentation provided.

Interprets and administers leave programs and policies to ensure administrative practices are in compliance with applicable federal and state laws such as HIPAA, FMLA, PDL, CFRA, ADA, USERRA and all other applicable regulations.

Process semi-monthly timesheets to include tracking of hours used/taken and research discrepancies with payroll to determine accurate pay; coordinate payment during a leave.

Maintains appropriate contact with employees on leave and coordinates all aspects of return-to-work protocols through the interactive process and modified work duties to ensure compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act).

Manages the data in current FMLA software system and may be the assigned subject-matter expert on this software system.

Administer, calculate and track the collection of insurance premium payments while employee is on leave of absence.

Workers Compensation n
· Point of contact for workers compensation claims.

Handles first report of injury, filing claim, coordinating medical care and ensuring completion of all required documentation.n
· Continues to monitor open claims.

Reviews work restrictions with management and coordinates reasonable accommodations necessary for the return-to-work process.n
· Partners with workers compensation adjuster to clarify claim information if needed.n
· Work with supervisors to arrange modified work duties based on accommodations and the return-to-work process.n
· Enters work injury data on Workers compensation and OSHA logs throughout the year.n
· Conducts basic ergonomic assessments, and coordinates evaluations with carrier as needed.n Health and Welfare Plan Administration n Coordinate and administer all employee benefit plans for both salary & hourly employees (i.e.

medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, FSA’s, COBRA).

· Provides customer service to employees regarding benefit inquiries including eligibility, enrollment, and resolution to benefits issues for all benefit plans, retirement plans, and COBRA.n
· Determine benefits eligibility for new hire and temporary employees and notify eligible employees.n
· Review and approve or deny employee benefit elections for qualifying events or new hire enrollment in the HRIS system.n
· Present benefit orientation meetingsn Partner with third-party administrators/consultants to collectively problem-solve benefit related issues pertaining to plan coverage, etc.

· Partner with Accounting and Payroll department to resolve any payroll deduction discrepancies related to employee benefit elections.n
· Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations governing all benefits programs.n
· Assist in the development and changes in benefit policies and procedures.n REQUIREMENTS: n Education: BA/BS in a related field of study from four-year college or universityn Experience: Minimum of three to five years of experience in leaves of absence, benefits administration, or related rolen Technical Requirements: Must have advanced knowledge of general office procedures and demonstrate excellent organizational and computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.n
