Summary:
Motive Energy, based in Fountain Valley, CA does end?to?end work in the distributed and renewable
energy space for Commercial and Industrial customers. Likewise, in the infrastructure industry, Motive
also provides comprehensive EPC services to the telecom and wireless industry.
The Solar PV Engineering Manager will be responsible for the managerial leadership and direction of the
engineering and CAD organization in Victorville, CA. This includes project engineering, application
engineering, engineering technology initiatives, organizational strategy, and development of career
advancement initiatives. The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering and CAD resources in a
dynamic and profitable manner. Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties
assigned by senior management.
Daily Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Manage multi?disciplinary teams to complete projects on time and on budget.
2. Provide high quality consulting to clients.
3. Provide significant mentoring and training to junior staff to build an effective team.
4. Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices,
codes.
5. Review full construction drawing sets and engineering specifications for each project.
6. Review single?line and three?line diagrams with required electrical details in accordance with NEC,
IEEE, utility interconnection tariffs and requirements.
7. Review and implement interconnection standards and ensure compliance. Prepare
interconnection application packages and setup load flow and dynamic models.
8. Develop detailed equipment specifications and bill of material.
9. Manage system studies for protective device coordination and the following explorations: short
circuit, arc flash, load flows, ampacity, grounding, harmonic, and power quality.
10. Gain deep knowledge of PV system components, and Balance of Systems (BOS), ESS, DC Gensets,
and EVCS.
11. Interact with electrical contractors and clients on job sites to answer questions, review change
requests and designs as needed to accommodate unanticipated field conditions.
12. Respond to contractor submittals, AHJ reviews, and RFIs according to project requirements,
codes, client goals, and our business interest.
13. Develop and/or maintain a network of vendor technology partners offering innovative DER
solutions and regularly integrate different DER components into customer solutions.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Electrical Engineering is preferred.
2. Professional Engineering license or EIT is preferred.
3. A minimum of 10 years total experience, 4+ years in renewables is preferred.
4. Knowledge of electrical design theory and concepts.
5. Strong knowledge of electrical principles, low and medium voltage distribution design, protection
and relaying design, and SCADA design.
6. Management of personnel resources.
7. Strong analytical and problem?solving skills.
8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
9. Efficient time management handle multiple projects simultaneously, including prioritizing,
organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines.
Preferred education and training level:
1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a power system focus (preferred).
2. 5+ years of experience in building and managing an engineering team.
3. Excellent people skills to mentor and build an engineering team.
