Social Work: Forensic Service Coordinator (FSC)/Specialized Unit (SSU)_

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, Nursing or related Human Services field from a four-year college or university with two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A California Driver License, Class C with personal auto insurance (meeting minimum California requirements), and internet access are required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Forensic Service Coordinator (FSC) will provide case management services for an assigned caseload comprised of individuals who are judicially involved and those that can be difficult to serve due to mental health barriers.

FSC will need to be able to work with those individuals with complex needs for example those receiving mobile crisis services, receiving state operated crisis assessment stabilization team services, placed in an acute crisis home or community crisis home, placed in a locked psychiatric facility, placed in an institution for mental disease, placed out of state, in county jail and eligible for diversion, or a person that cannot safely be served in a developmental center.

The FSC shall have the ability to work closely with law enforcement agencies to advocate on behalf of individuals served at South Central Los Angeles Regional Center (SCLARC) and work alongside the Forensic Assessment Team (FAT) to determine recommendations on services and supports in order to adhere to court mandates.

The FSC will work in sync with the Court Liaison and Law Enforcement Liaison within the SSU to assist with reports made to the court, any testifying required on behalf of the individual’s progress with court mandates and or violations of court orders.

FSC will attend court on behalf of individuals served to present recommendations from SCLARC to comply with court orders and requests.

Some duties may be required at times at the local jail or juvenile hall as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Forensic Service Coordinator should have strong customer service skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with peers, managers, vendors, community partners, public defenders/attorneys, probation officers, individuals, and families.

Forensic Service Coordinator must possess a working knowledge of short-term crisis counseling, and principles/techniques of case management.

The FSC should have an ability to advocate on behalf of the individuals we serve at SCLARC.

The FSC should be able to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, exercise sound professional judgment in making decisions and work independently.

Forensic Service Coordinator will contact assigned individuals on their caseload to complete the Individual Program Plan (IPP) upon placement into the community every 3 months or annually thereafter, depending on the living arrangement according to the established SCLARC Standard Operating Procedures.

In addition, the FSC will update casefiles of those individuals placed in custody with the assistance of the Law Enforcement Liaison.

Forensic Service Coordinator will attend & develop court letters for next court proceedings and Integrated Habilitative Treatment Plan (IHTP) meetings at Juvenile Hall.

Forensic Service Coordinator should also have knowledge and ability to present their cases to SCLARC Teams to include Interdisciplinary Team (IDT), Suspected Consumer Abuse and Neglect (SCAN), Enhanced Clinical Team (ECT) and Forensic Assessment Team (FAT).

The FSC must also be knowledgeable in SCLARC policies and protocols.

Forensic Service Coordinator will attend all mandatory meetings/training as required either within the Department of Consumer Support Services or outside mandatory trainings.

Forensic Service Coordinator will prepare cases for transfer to other Regional Centers as needed.

Forensic Service Coordinator will be assigned Officer-of-the-Day (OD) duties as required.

Forensic Service Coordinator may act as Program Manager in his/her absence upon request.

Other duties may be assigned as they become applicable to meeting the needs of those individuals served within the Specialized Services Unit.
