Snow Placement Operator – Mammoth Mountain

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, LLC

This is a Contract position in Los Angeles, CA posted January 15, 2021.

Operates equipment used to remove snow from roads and parking areas.

Early in the season, operates machinery for snowmaking (working with snow guns, pumps, and snowmobiles). Frequently drives in adverse weather conditions.

The Snow Placement Department is offering seasonal positions involved in both making snow in the early season and removing snow from highways and around facilities during the winter.

The department is able to offer a mid October beginning for its employees. We train in the use of snow making equipment and procedures in October and start to blow snow on the trails as soon as temperatures allow. This is often late October or early November and we continue until Mother Nature takes over.

Then it’s time to take plow trucks, loaders and blowers and remove snow from our lots, facilities and highways to allow guests to reach Mammoth. We work at night, often in storms and conditions of poor visibility.

Our work schedules are flexible and are weather driven. We teach skills in snowmaking and heavy equipment use that can be taken away and used at other times and locations during the lives of our employees. We train and prepare employees to pass the California class B license. Our work is often at night and this leaves daytimes free to ride, or sleep. Work is available in our department usually until around Easter, and is determined by weather and the level of business at the resort.

Our system allows operators to graduate up the pay scale according to the skills and abilities developed by the employee. We will provide a skills assessment to apprentice employees after 120 operating hours, which could allow for a raise or promotion.

Job Requirements: Applicants must have a California Commercial Drivers License. Applicants without a Commercial Drivers License, but who are eligible to acquire one, will be considered with transferrable experience. You must be at least 19 years of age, have had a license for three years or more, and have no more than two accidents or minor convictions. You may not have any major violations ( DUI, DWI, Reckless, Hit and Run etc) in the last three years. This is a Safety Sensitive position subject to the Department of Transportation (DOT) drug regulations.

Truly qualified applicants only, please.

Offers of employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.
