Skills Trainers provide direct assistance to clients who have a covered mental health diagnosis as prescribed and pre-approved by designated Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).

The skills trainer will meet with Compass Behavioral Health children and adolescent clients and/or their parent/guardians in the home, school or designated location, to provide assistance with behavioral and/or life skills, such as building relationship skills, impulse control and appropriate social interactions; coach parents/caregivers; develop schedules and coordinate services.

Transport clients to appropriate appointments with community-based organizations.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Direct Billable Services: Provide general skills training in both individual and family group settings; assist clients with identifying personal strengths and setting of treatment goals; provide crisis prevention/intervention and symptom management.Documentation: Complete and submit progress notes, records, correspondence and interagency liaison activities on behalf of assigned clients maintains and completes required records, reports, documentation as required by departmental policy and state and federal law.Community Based Services: As many of the services are provided with in the community and throughout Douglas County, driving is an essential and daily function of this position; transports individuals, family members and other supports to/from services.Training/Supervision: Participates in professional development through individual and group supervision, unit and agency staff meetings, workshops and computer based training.

May be asked to assist in developing, and maintaining training programs and materials in consultation with supervisor and program manager; Assists in peer professional development by sharing training materials and or training others .Will be required to achieve productivity standards as set forth and outlined by your manager.Maintain compliance with regard to state, federal and Compass Behavioral Health guidelines including but not limited to accurate and timely documentation.Other Duties as assignedAvailable for supervisions, unit meetings, on call evenings & weekends.CHALLENGES:Working with a variety of personalities, maintaining a consistent and professional communication style.Satisfying the needs of a fast paced and challenging company.QualificationsKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work science or related field, plus two years of experience in a mental health setting OR a satisfactory equivalence of education, experience and training.

Substantial knowledge of social service theory, practices and procedures to be able to identify a problem, decide on an appropriate action, and provide indicated services; knowledge of human behavior as it relates to crisis situations and problems of client population; reasonable knowledge of laws relating to mental health.Proven skill in working as a part of a team to support client needs; skill in working independently; effective use of listening techniques and principles to develop relationships; skill in preparing records, reports and communications; skilled in use of automated equipment.Ability to communicate effectively both in written and oral form; coordinate with families of clients and the community; participate in diagnostic and treatment conferences within an inter-disciplinary team; work with and relate to a diverse population of people with mental and physical disabilities, efficiently organize time and meet established deadlines; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; make decisions independently in accordance with established policies and procedures and use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; teach socialization and living skills to individuals with various learning levels; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, clients, families, schools, service agencies, service providers, physicians, professionals, team and committee members and the public.This position reports to a Supervisor / Program Manager and adheres to well-defined goals and expectations.

Employee is responsible for completing assigned work by timelines provided; Supervision is not a routine responsibility of this position; however, employee is expected to assist in the training and support of co-workers and internal and external customers.Written and oral guidelines, industry-based standards, reports and materials, and Department and Division policies and procedures provide framework; some independent judgment is necessary in aspects of the position including identifying and resolving challenges; if necessary, issue or question may be referred to supervisor or other managerial contact within department.

Due to the nature of the position and the proximity within which functions are performed near clients experiencing emotional challenge(s), being aware and alert to such changing situations being able to identify and correctly respond to critical situations.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL ABILITIES AND PROCESSES:Work is performed in clients’ homes, an office environment, residential living setting, schools, and in the field with possible exposures to dampness, bee stings, dust or pollen, noxious odors, outside temperature extremes, sun, smoke, noisy work areas, confined spaces, crowded areas and remote areas.

May involve bending, color identification, crawling, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing alarms and voice conversation, keyboarding, kneeling, lifting up to 34 pounds, operating passenger vehicles, pulling, pushing, reaching, running, sitting, standing long periods, walking on rough terrain.
