Job Description:
Shipper
Huntsman’s Advanced Materials Division is now searching for a new Shipper for our chemical manufacturing site located in Los Angeles, California.
As the Shipper, you will:
- Coordinate the collective efforts of both shipping and packaging teams for logistics management
- Complement support efforts to minimize interruptions or delays
- Manage the work instructions with logistics teams (freight forwarder, carriers, customer service, etc.) to ensure efficiency is maintained
- Review all transportation documentation to ensure everything is in order and in compliance with specific regulations and customers’ requirements
- Monitor expedited shipments to prevent delivery issues
- Review and address any issues with the appropriate department lead
- Knowledge and experience in transportation equipment and modes of transport
- Identify and confirm special packaging requirements (Reefer, dry ice) and shipping instructions to ensure they are carried out accordingly
- Provide support to both internal and external customers
- Interface with area leadership and direct the transportation on expedite shipments
- Ensure shipping quality and conformance to customer’s specifications
- Exceptional knowledge and certification in all HAZMAT regulations (IATA, IMO, DOT 49-CFR)
- Provide input and recommendations in compliance with HAZMAT regulations
- Continuous development in areas of logistics, MS Office suite, and other internal/external software programs (DGIS, Broussard, UPS World, FedEx Manager, Label Master, Label Matrix, Master Form, Boeing’s TM: DHL/EXEL)
- Excel at functioning in the shipping department and in providing solutions to alleviate risks
- Take ownership of unassigned workload and support other team members
- Proactively seek to take on tasks and other activities
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and step into unknown situations
- A passion for continuous improvement/Zero Harm initiatives (Daily Safety Cross)
- Always demonstrate a high sense of urgency
- High level of customer service, respond proactively to customer’s queries
- Handle delivery issues or provide line manager and supervisor issue resolutions
- Conduct spot checks to resolve oversights at an early stage
- Possess numerical and analytical skills
- Ensure accuracy of orders, documentation, and instructions
- Issue work permits and incident reporting
- Ability and willingness to support during ISO and internal audits
- Perform other duties as mandated by supervisor and management
- Excellent communication, organization and partnering skills
- Keep good housekeeping
Skills and experiences required:
- High School diploma or equivalent required with 8 years’ experience in shipping department
- Ability bend and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Help in solving problems and effectively communicate any issues to the appropriate functions
- Certified in Shipping of Dangerous Goods (Ocean, Air & Ground) transport
- Maintaining current training certificates and maintains current software requirements
- Run/create monthly shipping reports/ Coordinate and conduct safety meetings
- Make efficient and cost-effective decisions for shipments
- Communicate and solve any shipping related issues with Customer Service
- Works under general supervision
- Relies on experience/judgment to plan an accomplish tasks and goals
- May orient, train and assign the work of other employees
Starting rate for Shipper is $30.00/hr. Step progression available based on qualification – minimum of 12 months prior to associate qualifying.
