Job Description

A Senior Trust Officer (STO) is an experienced and skilled fiduciary professional. This position is an STO role serving clients of Merrill Advisors as part of Bank of America’s National Trust Services group. In this capacity the STO will partner with Merrill Advisory stakeholders such as Financial Advisor (FA) and Private Wealth Advisor (PWA) teams, Market Executives and Trust Specialists to identify opportunities for trust services, as well as provide fiduciary oversight to complex and sensitive client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Trust Specialists and Merrill advisors to recognize opportunities for business development, over time developing skills to work independently with Advisors to close trust business.

  • Engage in high level fiduciary oversight, proactively identify issues and coordinate all trust administrative activities by partnering with internal groups, such as Office of Chief Fiduciary, Portfolio Oversight Group, Tax Services and others.

  • Meet with clients periodically to deepen relationships, address issues, develop new business opportunities, and/or provide trust, estate, and wealth transfer planning insight.

  • Partner with a Trust Administrative Officer (TAO) to deliver a high level of service and responsiveness to Merrill advisors and clients while executing fiduciary responsibilities within the Bank of America’s established policies, procedures and protocols.

Qualifications and skills:

  • 5 + years of technical expertise in the areas of trust administration, fiduciary law, and/or estate and wealth transfer planning.

  • Ability to balance sense of urgency and responsiveness with adherence to policies and procedures, as well as issue identification and resolution within the enterprise risk profile.

  • Aptitude to effectively build partnerships with internal stakeholders and external advisors to drive business development.

  • Effective written and verbal communicator, relationship builder, self-starter who can partner effectively with TAO to maintain efficient and organized day-to-day business practices

  • Bachelor’s degree required

STO works closely with local Private Bank teams to achieve strategic objectives of PWM market overall. The STOs primary responsibility is the administration and business development of the IM&T book. The STO will have a complex book of business and will be expected to deepen his or her relationships through estate and financial planning. STO leads, and is accountable for, trust product sales and working with MTE, MTTL or TTL to assure trust product awareness and education of clients and Private Bank associates in market. Responsible for the STO books management of fiduciary risks and trust policy adherence. Well-respected internally and externally with proven ability to partner effectively.
