Primary Responsibilities
The Transportation Division/Traffic Engineering and ITS Market Sector of HDR is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Traffic/ ITS Engineer in our traffic engineering group for immediate employment in our LA region offices.
The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in Traffic Engineering planning and design specific to ITS and traffic improvement projects as well as experience in emerging technology related traffic engineering issues.

The successful candidate can look forward to projects including assignments such as the LAX Automated People Mover Project, Nevada DOT On Call contract and the Shoemaker Bridge Improvement project.
This candidate will be involved in the development and support of many other challenging multi-modal projects for agencies like LA Metro, City of LA, City of Long Beach, OCTA, SBCTA, RCTD and RCTC as well as other clients.
The primary duties of this senior position include providing planning for the production of traffic operations analysis and design oversight for traffic design and traffic management system plans and all aspects of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).
You must be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity while planning and developing projects or design activities that have significant impact on major company programs.
May serve as project manager on larger traffic projects, however, project management is not the sole focus of position.
Incumbent Responsibilities include:
- Requires project experience working on multi-disciplinary planning and design project teams.
- Candidate must have experience in client/project/task management, traffic engineering, and ITS including work on projects in Southern California and throughout the state.
- Candidate must be experienced in preparing scopes of work, work schedules, budgets, and quality assurance plans including cost control, updated cost to completes, and implementing project implementation plans.
- Experience in innovative project solutions and active communications skills required.
- Position requires experience in preparing Caltrans level documents including Concept designs and PS&E of traffic operations systems.
- Position includes exposure in transit management and performance, transit capacity and level of service, emerging and innovative public transport and technologies.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- BSCE required.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience focused in the field of traffic engineering and ITS.
- Requires project experience working on multi-disciplinary planning and design project teams.
- This candidate should also have experience managing staff and supporting proposal efforts , mentoring junior staff and leading the design engineering practice.
- Candidate must be experienced in preparing scopes of work, work schedules, budgets, and quality assurance plans including cost control, updated cost to completes, and implementing project implementation plans.
- Experience in innovative project solutions and active communications skills required.
- Position requires experience in preparing Caltrans level traffic operations analysis documents including PSR’s, TEPA, TOAR, CEQA/NEPA traffic impact analysis and mitigation, as well as an understanding of traffic forecasting and micro-simulation models.
- Project experience may include developing multimodal transportation solutions, reducing traffic congestion, improving transit and reducing parking demand by increasing the use of alternative transportation modes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience giving technical presentations to clients, professional societies and public agencies a plus.
