As a Senior Safety Project Engineer, you will be the design authority for Energy Service engineering projects in Process Automation Energy Industries in Houston, Texas, making technical recommendations and enhancing customer satisfaction by providing excellent service.

Reporting to the Functional Safety Execution Center Lead, you will be responsible for designing automation and controls systems involving Distributed Control System​ (DCS)/Safety Instrumented System (SIS) and its respective Human Machine Interface (HMI).

The candidate must have proven experience in DCS/SIS logic and programming.

This position will be responsible for all aspects of a project including reviewing design input documents, system design, hardware design, programming, HMI, simulation, testing and start up.

Your responsibilities Work as part of an integrated design team to meet project requirements and deliverables Consider safety to be the most important responsibility Work with Client to understand details of the process to be controlled Conduct reviews of application design with Client and ABB project team to ensure that the control requirements have been captured correctly Follow Functional Safety Management System and produce documents to ensure compliance Experience with functional safety documents like Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), SIF list, Cause and Effect matrix and Safety Integrity Level​ (SIL) achievement calculations Implement the control application code using ABB or third party process automation engineering tools Develop HMI graphics Hardware design and testing Testing of control applications Travel for Client meetings and onsite commissioning activities (totaling 1 to 2 months per year, Domestic and International travel) Train Client resources on developed control applications Provide onsite commissioning and startup support to help troubleshoot any issues with the delivered system Work with sales and proposal team to review scope and provide estimates on engineering efforts Interfacing with third party package system using OPC, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP protocols and other communication protocols Your background Bachelors Degree in Engineering and over 8 years of related experience Knowledge and/or experience in control system applications software programming and troubleshooting.

Strong technical knowledge of programming techniques Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and knowledge of Functional Safety standards like IEC61508 and IEC61511 / ISA84 Experience in software strategy design, developing user requirements, functional requirements and detailed design Experience leading and executing Distributed Control Systems (DCS) by designing and developing complex models, simulations and control strategies Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and work with diverse discipline project teams Ability to learn new methods and technologies Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently Proficient in standard workstation tools: Microsoft® Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint®) Attention to detail Position will be based in Houston, Texas Reimbursement for relocation is not available Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US Benefits Retirement plan Life insurance Disability insurance Medical insurance Wellbeing program More about us ABB Energy Industries is enabling safe, smart and sustainable projects and operations for businesses across the oil, gas, chemicals, life sciences, power generation and water sectors.
