Job Description Job Summary Responsible for assisting R&D manager in new product developments. Develop and enhance seasoning blends for new and existing customers. Formulate and reformulate product with minimum supervision. Build, maintain, and update R&D database. Conduct laboratory scale batching for customer sample requests. Provide smooth transition in scale-up processes. Keep abreast of culinary and food technology trends and develop new house seasonings for proactive sales projects. Organize and maintain R&D laboratory. Supervise and Train Junior Formulator and Lab Assistant. Major Responsibilities Manage projects from concept through commercialization of products. Coordinate with Sales and Customer Service departments in processing customer requests. Sourcing and testing new ingredients for new projects or for improvement of existing products. Prepare samples of new products for customer approval. Enter formulation information in the ERP System. Assist first time scale-up productions. Review labels per FDA regulations. Research and obtain new raw ingredients and technical documents for formulation per R&D manager’s requests. Create and maintain technical documents related to new formulations. Assist R&D manager in investigating customer complaints. Communicate with customer regarding any questions or issues. File customer and vendor documents. Maintain R&D reference sample and ingredient supplies. Submit inventory adjustment document for restocking R&D ingredient supplies. Purchase R&D supplies as needed. Conform to established internal food safety programs such as GMP, FSMA, Allergen, Glass/Brittle Plastic, and Food Defense program. Keeping up with industry trends, FDA/USDA regulations, and new technologies. Data and document maintenance. Preferred Education and Experience B.S. in Food Science/Chemistry or related field with 7 years of work experience in formulating seasoning or related products. Working knowledge of Food Science, cGMP, HACCP, FDA/FSMA and NOP regulations. Require strong interpersonal skills and effective problem-solving skills. Proficient mathematical skill.
