POSITION OVERVIEWDanaher’s Labor & Employee Relations Center of Excellence (LER COE) provides core labor and employee relations services to its operating companies (OpCos) based on deep subject matter expertise and experience and plays a critical role in creating and supporting an equitable workplace culture where associates can be at their most productive and focus on growing their careers.
As a member of the of the LER COE team, the Sr.
Employee Relations Specialist – North America (ERS) will report directly to the LER COE Regional Leader
– North America and will provide labor and employee relations services to Danaher Operating Companies (OpCos) in the U.S.
and Canada.
The ERS will provide close consultation and support to OpCo HR Business Partners (HRBPs) and OpCo HR Generalists on routine core LER matters and will handle non-routine and more complex core LER matters that require judgment, interpretation of policies, and deep labor and employee relations expertise and experience.
The ERS will be responsible for driving adoption and execution of consistent core employee relations programs and practices in an effective manner, including meeting applicable operational and service level requirements.
The ERS will also deliver training for HR clients on relevant LER best practices and processes.
The ERS will strengthen HR-related compliance processes, by being a proactive advocate for ethics and compliance and will be responsible for driving education, process and program improvements where appropriate consistent with Danaher’s Code of Conduct and Core Values.
The ERS will offer creative and effective recommendations and solutions to challenging workplace issues.
The ERS will perform this role with the highest standard of professionalism and fairness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES+ Advises and coaches OpCo HR business partners and HR generalists on routine core labor and employee relations matters including routine workplace investigations, policy and issue resolution, performance management, employee separations, leave management and accommodations and labor/social partner relations (as applicable).
+ Handles non-routine core labor and employee relations matters including routine workplace investigations, policy and issue resolution, performance management, employee separations, leave management and accommodations and labor/social partner relations (as applicable).
+ Promptly and thoroughly conducts and manages non-routine workplace investigations of associate complaints and grievances with systematic approach to address root causes, develop and recommend actions and countermeasures, and effectively conclude investigation by facilitating a review of the decision with appropriate stakeholders and close out of actions and countermeasures.+ Manages and handles matters requiring the interpretation and application of policies and procedures to resolve issues related to core labor and employee relations matters+ Manages and handles non-routine matters regarding employment separations (individual and group/mass layoffs) and position eliminations and restructures+ Develops and handles non-routine leave accommodation solutions.+ Handles and advises on performance management issues, including development of performance improvement actions.+ Supports HR team on union / labor matters or responds to union grievances and requests for information as appropriate.+ Supports and coordinates responses to internal and external employment compliance audits.+ Helps to build and implement Standard Work and best practice tools, policies and trainings.+ Ensures Standard Work and best practice tools are consistently adopted, sharing learning across the HR team.+ Submits periodic reporting to Regional LER Leader and other stakeholders to drive awareness, identify gaps and determine training needs.+ Finds opportunities to improve employee and labor relations and helps build and implement innovative solutions, programs and policies.+ Improves efficiency of HRBP and HR Generalists by handling core labor and employee relations matters directly, and by providing clear and consistent guidance and solutions+ Keeps up to date on upcoming laws and regulations helping the business adjust policies, practices and procedures accordingly.+ Liaises with DHR L Legal Team as required.CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS + Has solid technical knowledge of fundamental LER-related labor and employment regulations+ Able to garner respect of and influence HR and business client.+ Has internal knowledge of Danaher level and operating company agreements, guidelines or policies that may impact labor and employee relations.+ Adept at critical thinking and problem-solving; breaking down issues to identify and prioritize the main components of the problem, recognizing pertinent information and drawing appropriate conclusions.+ Approaches decisions proactively, making effective and pragmatic choices, balancing benefit and risk, and maintaining compliance.+ Gathers facts and data from multiple sources, readily understanding the data elements and definitions needed for specific analyses.+ Demonstrates composure in tough situations and confronts problems with a problem-solving attitude, remaining objective.+ Does not shy away from constructive conflict and confrontation; perceived as possessing high integrity in all dealings.+ Guides discussions to enable partners to express concerns, objectives, and accurately summarizing and narrowing issues.+ Excellent interpersonal, influencing, written/oral communication skills; able to clearly and concisely communicate progress and results to critical partners in a timely manner and engage and align others with process and drive execution.+ Has a customer service orientation with a high sense of urgency.+ Partners appropriately with legal counsel (internal and external) as needed / required.+ Has highest standard of integrity and fairness and is non-political in all dealingsEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE+ University degree required (BA or BS)+ Master’s Degree preferred+ Has at least 5+ years of combined human resources, employee relations, labor relations, investigative, and/or L legal experience.+ Proficient knowledge of US LER subject matter required+ Knowledge of Canadian LER subject matter preferred+ Significant experience in owning, handling and executing employee relations investigations and preparation of appropriate documentation.+ Experiences that suggest an ability to function independently and optimally in a sophisticated, matrixed organization.+ Proficient with MS Office Suite including Excel and comfortable with frequent use of ER Case Management technology platform.+ Ability to travel domestically as needed (15%)PHYSICAL DEMANDS+ Include considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, monitor)+ May occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping.+ May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20 lbs.
